Be it known that I, HENRI ALBIN JOSEPH Evnsoun, acitizen of the Republic of France, residing at 2 Place Porte-Neuve, Valence, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Compression Pumps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact dc scription of the invention, such as will on able others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an air compression pump, more especially intended for use with Vaporizers or scent sprays, being primarily intended to replace the rubber balls generally used with such apparatus, which balls rapidly wear out, although the pump may be used for other purposes.
The characteristic feature of the invention consists in the provision of a piston which is adapted to have a rectilinear movement in the body of the pump, the movement being controlled or insured by the use of an axial rod, which also serves to limit the path of movement of the piston.
In the accompanying drawing, two methods of carrying out the invention are shown by way of example, and in these drawings :Figure 1 shows a transverse section of an air pump made according to one method of carrying out the invention; Fig. 2 is a cross section of another construction according to my invention showing the pump fitted to a vaporizer for toilet purposes.
The pump comprises two hollow portions A and B. The first of these portions A forms the body of the pump. and the second, B constitutes the piston. At the upper portion C of this piston is attached a bucket washer D of leather, provided with a perforation K for allowing the entry of air into the interior of the body of the pump, when the piston is moved under the action of the helical spring E, and returns to its initial position. During the movement the bucket leather assumes the position shown dotted in the drawing at Fig. 1.
The body A of the pump is provided, at the axis thereof, with a tube I, in which slides the head of a screw-threaded pin I-I. screwed into the upper extremity of the rod G. This rod is provided with a collar resting on a metallic washer R intended to keep the bucket leather in position. The rod G also passes through the part C of the pis- Patented July 13, 1915.

ton. It is fixed to the piston by'means of a screw as will be clearly seen from the drawing. To the tube I is screwed a junction piece'for the rubber tube connecting the pump to the vaporizer and provided on the interior with a ball valve F. Means are provided such as a suitable slot G for allowing air to pass from the pump A to the tube I. A movement to and fro given to the piston, which movement is assisted by the helical spring E, compresses the air through the valve F. It will be observed that the movement of the piston B in the body of the pump A is a rectilinear one which is insured by the rod G at the axis of the piston. Vvith this construction the whole length of the pump body can be used for the compression, the movement being limited by the head of the screw H coming against the junction piece screwed on to the tube I.
At Fig. 2 the pump is shown attached directly by means of the tubular piece I to the head L of a vaporizer. To the head L may be screwed a tube M adapted to hold a stopper or cork N which may be easily changed according to the size of the neck of the bottle.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America 1s 1. In an air compression pump the combination of a hollow pump body, a hollow piston adapted to slide within such body, a tube arranged axially with respect to the pump body and provided with an outlet at the end farthest away from the piston, a rod attached to the piston, passing axially through the pump body and entering the said tube, valve means for allowing the air toenter the pump body when the piston is drawn outward and means for allowing the air to pass into and from the tube in connection with the pump body when the piston is forced in substantially as described.
2. In an air compression pump the combination of a hollow pump body, a hollow piston adapted to slide within such body, a tube attached axially to the said pump body, a rod attached to the piston, passing axially through the pump body, entering the said tube, and provided with an enlarged head working in said tube, a bucket valve adapted to allow air to enter the pump body when the piston is being drawn out, and means for allowing the air to pass out of the pump body, up the axial tube and to a valve at the end of such tube when the piston is forced in substantially as described.

In an air compression pump, the combination of a hollow pump body, a hollow piston adapted to slide within such body, a tube attached axially to the said pump body, a rod attached to the piston passing axially through the pump body, entering the said tube, and provided with an enlarged head screwed to the end of the axial rod and working in the said tube, a bucket valve attached to the piston and adapted to allow air to enter the pump body when the piston is being drawn out, a helical spring mounted around the rod in the pump body and tending to force the piston outward, means for allowing the air to pass out of the pump body into the axial tube, a valve housing provided with a ball valve and mounted at the outer end of the axial tube and adapted to limit the path of movement of the piston within the pump body substantially as described. 1

In an air compression pump the 00mbination of a hollow pump body, a hollow piston adapted to slide within such body, a tube arranged axially with respect to the pump body, a rod attached to the piston, passing axially through the pump-body and entering the said tube, valve means for allowing the air to enter the pump body when the piston is drawn outward, means for allowing the air to pass from the pump body to the tube, and avalve at the outer end of such axial tube.
