To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN H. GILES and DONALD M. GILES, citizens of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of .hlassachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dyeing-Machines, of. which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to machines for the dyeing of yarns and the like and consists of an improved adjusting mechanism for the series of yarn supporting sticks. This improved adjusting mechanism of our invention operates simultaneously to adjust all of the inner stickbearingsivith relation to the outer series of sticks and is of a character wherein removable securing parts are not required and, moreover. it is adapted to be actuatcdby a removable wrench therein to afford coo operating handle for the operator. The hearings for the inner may be of any approved form and are indicated of a customary type of bearing provided by flanges 88 on the inner rings 7 havpermitted to have a movement relative to the outer bearing rings which are rigidly supported on the spiders. The bearings upon which the inner stick bearing rings 7 turn are provided as shownby the ends of the inner reinforcing ribs of the spokes 5. Suitable clips 75 on the spokes engage the outer edges of the rings to hold them in poor 'toothed segments 7 6. Engaging the teeth of these racks 76 are pinions 83 carried on a sition. The two inner bearing rings at the center of the double type of machine shown are desirably secured together by bolts or otherwise so that they will turn together thus forming a double bearing ring.
'For turning'of the rings they are provlded 'on their inner peripheries with racks longitudinally arranged shaft 80 which is journaled in suitable bearing brackets 78 carried on the spokes A worm gear 81'is provided on the end of the shaft 80-whereby it is turned to' shift the bearing rings 7 through the engagement of the pinions and racks and thus shift the entire series of inner stick bearings and the sticks in unison.
Conveniently to effect this movement we have provlded a radially arranged actuating shaft 84 journaled in suitable brackets 7 8 and 85 on the spokes and the outer ring 6. Upon the actuating shaft is arranged a worm 86 in engagement with the worm gear 81. The outer end of the actuating shaft. 84 is squared for the engagement of a suitable detachable operating Wrench by the operation of whichuall of the inner bearing rings and sticks will be moved together'with relation to the outer yarn sticks. In employing the worm 86 to effect the adjustment of the sticks detachable securing means to retain the parts in adjusted position are not re- 'quired for the worm and worm gear are self lockmg and retain the connections in any position as adjusted. Furthermore, the ar- 7 rangement described adjusts all of the bearings in one operation and the use of the detachable wrench affords a cool handle for the operator.

Having described our invention, we claim l. A dyeing machine havingan inner and an outer set of stick supportin members and means for simultaneously ad usting the relation of one set with reference to the other comprising racks carried by the members of one set, an actuating shaft journaled on the other members, pinions on the actuating shaft in engagement with the racks, a worm gear on said shaft, an operating shaft on a member of the latter set and an operating Worm on the operating shaft in operative engagement with the worm gear.

A dyeing machine having an inner and an outer set of annular stick supporting members, the inner of said members being journaled to move relative to the outer members, racks on the inner members, an actuating shaft carried by the outer members, pinions on the actuating} shaft in mesh with the racks, a worm gear on the actuating shaft, a radially arranged operating shaft suitably journaledi and an operating worm on said shaft in engagement with the worm gear to eflect simultaneously the adjustment of the inner supporting members relative to the outer supporting members for varyingthe.
