1. In a centrifugal pumping device, the
combination with a casing provided with a' relief port opposite the intake, an impeller provided with a chamber communicating and an annular flange projecting inwardly from the outer edge of said chamber adapted to close or open said port.
2. In a centrifugal pump, a casing provided with a. chamber opposite the intake; having a relief port, an impeller provided with a chamber operating in the casing chamber and provided with an upper inncr projecting flange adapted to close or open said relief port.
3. In a centrifugal pump, a casing provided with a chamber and a relief port an impeller provided with a chamber having an inner projecting flange adapted to, close said relief port, aboss between said relief port and said projecting flange for allowing the water passing between the stationary and running parts to freely circulate within the inner chamber.
4. In a centrifugal pumping device, the combination with an impeller, of a casing having a space into which the water from the impeller isdischarged, a lower chamber 5. A centrifugal pump comprising acasing having a discharge outlet and a suction inlet, said casing having a relief passage one end of which is in communication with the suction inlet side of the'casing and the other end is in communication with the sidciof the casing opposite its suction inlet side, a runnerewithin the casing having on its suction inlet side a running slip joint with the "suctioif'inlet of the casing, and having on its lower chamber communicating with said opposite side an annular angled flange, one
