Be it known that we, JOHN ROBERT SPEAK and JAMES MILTON BEATTIE, both of the city of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ground Strip Fasteners, of which the following is the specification.

The invention relates to improvements in ground strip fasteners and the object of the invention is to provide an-inexpensive, efficient and durable fastener which can be placed at any point in a wall to effect the "astening of the ground strip to the wall, it being understood that the invention is especially adaptable in building constructions wherein it is required to efiect the fastening .of a ground strip to a plaster, tile or such like fire proof wall or partition without being restricted by the location of the joints between blocks as occurs ept practice. 1 With the above object in view the invention consists essentia ly in a perforated plate fitted with an,out-turned pair of opposing flanges and an adjoining pair of outstand ing fastening jaws,the parts being arranged and. constructed as hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device as applied in a wall. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through the wall, fastener, ground strip and facing strip, the section beingtaken' in the plane denoted by the line X-X Fig. 1.

1 represents a wall or partition formed as is common practice from similar fireproof blocks 2 built up one on the'other and having mortar, cement or other similar bonding material 3 appearing between the successive courses. v

4 represents our fastener which is inthe form of a substantially rectangular sheet metal plate having the body portion thereof suitably perforated as indicated at 5.

The material of the plate is cut and bent to provide a pair of outstanding parallel in the presv the wall is plastered nently and finally to the wall. noticed that the forward face of the ground flanges 6 and 7 and also to provide an adjoining air of outstanding more or less V- shaped jaws or fastening members 8 and 9 the members having their extremities turned inwardly, that is toward each other to present piercing points 10.

In using our invention to fasten a ground strip to a wall or partition a number of the fasteners are used, each fastener being provisionally fastened to the wall by driving in corner nails such as those 11 if the nature. of the wall permits or by applying composition such as plaster of Paris to bond it to the wall in instances where it is impossible to drive a nail. The wooden ground I strip 12 is then placed in position on the wall being received between the flanges 6 and 7, of the various fasteners, the flanges holding the ground strip in place until such time that the builder can drive the piercing pbints strip. When the jaws have been driven 1n, in the usual way, the plaster 13 being applied over the fastenings and therebv securing the fastenings permastrip is exposed through the plaster so that the facing strip 1 1 can be readily nailed to the ground strip.

We might remark that in ordinary practice it is customary to insert the ground strip fastened in the bonding material between the blocks. This construction however limits the position of the ground strip as it can only appear at the bond between the blocks. With our invention it is wholly immaterial where the ground strips are located as they canbe placed at any point on the wall by simply locating and provisionally fastenthe wall, then mounting and fastening the ground strips to the fasteners and lastly plastering the wall to finally hold the fasteners. What we claim as our invention is;

A ground strip fastener comprising a flat perforated plate fitted with a pair of outstanding opposing jaws having teeth adapted to enter a ground strip and preventionlng the fasteners in any desired position on 10 of the various jaws into the ground It is to beand an adjoining alined gitudinal or transverse movement thereof, pair of opposing outstanding flanges, adapted to prevent vertical movement of said ground strip, as and for the purpose specified, said jaws vand flanges being stamped from the body of the plates whereby further perforations are provided.
