Description
@TATltld PATENT GUSTAV REINHOLD PESTER, OF 'i/VITTGENSDORF, NEAR GHEIVINITZ, GERMANY.
PROCESS OF PRODUCING MELANGE-LIKE DYED YARNS, HOSIERY, AND WEAVINGS.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GUs'rAv REINi-IOLD PESTER, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of VVittgensdorf, near Chemnitz, Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Processes of Producing Melange-like Dyed Yarns, Hosiery, and Weavings, whereof the following is a specification.
It is known that out of loose wool and cotton yarn may be spun and such yarn dyed in different colors. The product there by obtained is called melange. It is also known that differently dyed threads may be twinned together and that the yarn thereby obtained is called jaspe.
According to the present invention two different threads, for example, undyed wool and undyed cotton, preferably four or manyfold, are twined together in a raw state and then dyed (for example in abath of a wool dye). By this process an effect is obtained which neither presents the undistinct feature of the melange nor that of the jaspe, but produces quite a new and special impression, a color-effect lying between that of the two aforesaid methods.
The product obtained by the new process which might perhaps be termed jaspemelange, shows sharper and more regular outlines than the melange, but, on the other hand, it presents when compared with the real jaspe, a more melange-like character.
In putting this process into operation, I may twist together one or more fine yarns of undyed cotton, and one or more threads of undyed wool to produce a simple thread. After which two or more of these simple threads are twisted together to produce a compound thread (four fold or manyfold). This treatment of threads is referred to in the textile art as twining. This is not to be confused with a known process in which two or more wool yarns are twisted together to produce a wool thread, and this wool thread twisted with a similar thread of cotton material, nor is it to be con- Specification of Letters Patent.

fused with a known process in which yarns are made from a mixture of wool and cotton, which are twisted together to produce compound threads. This thread is now dyed, as for example with wool blue, whereby the wool will be thoroughly dyed blue, while the cotton takes only a very light shade of color. The dyed thread may thereafter be dyed, for example in chamois, whereby the cotton becomes thoroughly dyed, whereas the wool, previously dyed blue, will take only a little shading.
By this process the effects of the two colors will influence each other in such a manner that beautiful transition-colors, not obtainable in any other way, will result therefrom and produce superior melange effects.
Of course the most different colors may be combined by this system, so as to produce the most varying melange-shades It is quite astonishing to see how completely dyed threads show in many cases effects as if not only two but even three, four or more shades have been combined in the thread.
' What I claim is 1. The herein described process of producing jaspe-melange textiles, which comprises the steps of twisting together a plurality of yarns of different undyed materials having different dye absorbing properties, twisting together a plurality of the threads thereby obtained in order to produce twined thread of at least four fold, and dyeing the final thread in a bath of a dye having different actions on the different constituents of the thread, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein described process of producing a jaspe-melange textile, which comprises the steps of twisting together a plurality of yarns of undyed cotton and undyed wool, twisting together a plurality of the threads thereby produced, in order to produce a thread of at least four fold, and dyeing the final thread in a bath of a WOOl dye, substantially as described.
3. The herein described process of producing jaspe-melange textiles, which comprises the steps of twisting together yarns of'wool and yarns of cotton, to produce a In testimony whereof I have set my hand thread, twisting together a plurality of under this specification in the presence of threads obtained in this manner, dyeing the two subscribing Witnesses.
