GAME APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED NOV-17.
Patented. July 6, 1915.
lNl/E/VTOR Harry E. Ma honey WITNESSES ATTORNEYS HARRY MAI-IONEY, OF TAMPA, FLORIDA.
GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6, 1915.
Application filed November 17, 1914. Serial No; 872,647. A
of Tampa, in the county of Hillsborough and State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Game Apparatus, of WlllOll the following is a full, clear, and exact description. f
My invention has for its object to prov de a game apparatus with jointed figures pivoted at their feet and having depending rods by which they may be extended periodically, the rods being normally disposed in guideways which have openings through which the rods may move. to permit the figures to fall when the rods and the figures are raised to pre-determined positions. The rods may be raised by any suitable'means, and as the figures are moved upwardly with the rods, they may be used as targets against which may be thrown by any suitable means, a missile, it being possible to knock the figure down when hit by the missile as the rod is in position to pass through the opening in the guideway.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my in-. vention; and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View of Fig. 1.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that any desired number of figures 5 are provided, these figures having legs 6 which are pivoted to the figures 5 at 7, the legs 6 being ointed at 8 and being pivoted at 9 to a rod 10 which is supported in bearings 11 in flanges 12 which are turned up from a plate 13 which is secured at the depending fianges 14 to the sides 15 of a box or casing 16. Secured to each of the bodies 5 and depending therefrom there is a rod 17 having an enlarged lower terminal 18 which is normally engaged by the concave upper end 19 of a plunger 20, each-0f the plungers 20 being disposed for reciprocating in a cylindrical guideway 21, each of the cylindrical guideways 21 having a cutaway portion 22 at its upper front portion so that when a rod 17 is raised by a plunger 20 to a position where its enlarged lower terminal 18 is disposed above the bottom of the cutaway portion 22, the figure 5 will be per-' mitted to fall backwardly when struck by a'missile or other object.
As indicated in the drawings, I prefer to use figures 5,, resembling soldiers which, when the rods 17 are lowered, squat or crouch as indicated, the legs 6 of the soldie'rs bendat the knee joints 8 and at the pivots 7 and also atvthe pivotal connection -9 with the rod 10. When the soldiers 5 squat in this manner, they are disposed behind the intrenchment members 23, but
when they are raised by theirlrods 17, the
legs6 become straight and the soldier figures 5 appear in erect position exposed above the intrenchment members 23. When the soldier figures 5 are at their full height, the enlarged terminals 18 of the rods 17 will be disposed above the horizontal level at the bottom of the cutaway portions 22 of the guideways 21 so that when in this position, the soldier figures may fall rearwardly on their pivotal connections 9 when struck by any object. The cover of the box 24, which is hinged at 25 to the body of the box 16, has a curved member 26 which forms a continuation of the intrenchment members 23 when the box cover 24 is open as shown in Fig. 20f the drawings. To the plungers 20 there are articulated pitmen 27 which are articulated to the cranks 28 of the shaft 29 which is journaled in bearings 80 in the sides 15 of the box 16. The shaft 29 may be rotated by any suitable means, but I prefer to rotate it by a spring motor 31 which is connected with the shaft 29 by gearing 32.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a game apparatus, a jointed and pivoted figure, a rod secured to the figure and separated from the pivot by the joint, and a guideway for the rod which is provided with an opening, through which the rod may movewhen the rod is in a pre-determined position relatively to the guideway.
2. In a game apparatus, a figure, operating means for moving the figure in one direction, and means cooperating with the first means to secure the figure against falling in another direction at pre-determined times in its movement.
8. In a game apparatus, a figure, a rod secured to the figure, and a guideway for the rod which is provided with an opening through which the rod may move when the rod is in a predetermined position relatively to the guideway.
4. In a game apparatus, a figure, a rod se-' cured to the figure, guide means for the rod and operating means for moving the rod to a position beyond the guide means.
'5. In a game apparatus, a figure, a rod secured to the figure for moving the latter, and means cooperating with the rod to prevent the figure from falling at-a predetermined time in its movement by the rod.
6. In a game apparatus, a figure, legs pivoted to the body of the figure, pivotal means forthe legs on which they may rock, means for raising the figure and means oooperatingwithithe first means to prevent the figure from falling at pro-determined times in its movement.
7. In a game apparatus, a figure, legs pivoted to the figure, pivotal means for the legs on which they may rock, a rod secured to the figure for moving the latter relatively to the "pivotal means, guide means for the rod,1and operating means for moving the rod to a position beyond the guide means.
Copies .of this patent may be obtained for 8. In a game apparatus, a body, jointed legs pivoted at their upper end to the body, pivotal means for the legs below their joints, on which the legs may rock, operating means for moving the body in one direction, and 11 the body, and a guideway for the rod which is provided with an opening through which the rod may move when the rod is in a predetermined position relatively to the guideway.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
