To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LJOsEPILVALmILE; a citizen of the United States, residing, at Manitowoc. in the county of Manitowoc and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements In Hoistmg Mechanism for Mixing-Machines, of which the following is a specification, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings; v i This invention relates to new and useful improvements in mixers and more particularlv to concretemixers. The primary object of the present invention is to provide 'a mixer drum which is prov ded wlth mechanism for rotating the drum and also for raising and'lowering the same when the ingredients to be mixedare emptied therein, or discharged therefrom. Secured adjacent the rear ends of the arms 30 is a cross bar38 which hasextend 7 pair of spaced bearings l0 ing therefrom a I journaled upon the shaft 19. To provide means for supporting the drum upon thefi arms 30, I provide a pair of vertically ex .transverse member of the support 1 1 tending supports 41 which are permanently mounted upon each of the arms 30 and are connected by the substantially semi-circular brace bars 42. These brace bars 42 have rotatably mounted therein flanged rollers 43. Secured upon the periphery of the drum adjacent the medial portion thereof is a track 45 upon which the flanged rollers 43 are adapted to travel, thereby providing means for supporting the forward end of the drum which will also limit its longitudinal movement and provide means whereby the same may be freely rotated.
A thrust bearing 46 is secured upon the outer face of the plate 36 by means of set screws or the like, and has detachably mounted therein a shaft d7. T his shaft 17 is supported within a suitable bearing 48 mounted upon the member 38 and has keyed to its free end a beveled gear 49'. This beveled gear 19 is adapted to mesh with the beveled gear 50' keyed upon the shaft 19., as shown, so that as power is applied to the said shaft, it will also impart a rotary motion to the drum.
The diagonally extending cross bars 15 are preferably channeled so as to provide guicleways 17 in which is adapted to reciprocate a block 18. Secured to this block d8 area pair of cables 19 which extend from pulleys 50 formed upon the end face of the and the lower end of these cables are connected to the arms 30. Journaled within the transverse member of the support 13 is a shaft 51, having keyed to one end thereof a beveled gear 52 which is adapted to mesh with beveled gears 53 and 54, respectively, keyed upon the slidable shaft 28. The opposite end of this shaft 51 is provided with a screw 55 which is adapted to operate within a bearing 56 formed within the central portion of the block 48.
It is obvious from the foregoing description that when power is applied to the shaft 19 it will impart a rotary motion to the drum, thereby thoroughly mixing the ingreclients emptied therein and at the same time will operate the slidable shaft'23 and by sliding this shaft 23 by means of a handle 57, till the beveled gear 53 comes in mesh with the beveled gear 52, it will operate the shaft 51 which will obviously raise the auxiliary frame in which the drum is mounted by the mechanism before described, but when the beveled gear 54 is in mesh with the beveled gear 5:2, it will reverse its movement, thereby causing the outer end of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the drum to descend through the mechanism, as previously described.
Mounted within the inner periphery of the drum are a plurality of longitudinal spirally extending blades 58 which are preferably angular-shaped in cross section and extend the full length of the drum. It is obvious when the drum is in a raised position through the mechanism before described, the blades 58 will direct the ingredients emptied therein and within the frustum portion of the drum, thereby thoroughly mixing the same, but when the drum is lowered through the mechanism as before described, the blades 58 will direct the ingredients to the opening end of the drum whereby the same may be emptied in a suitable receptacle.
It will be manifest from the foregoing. that the description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that I have provided a drum which will be strong, durable and efficient in use, and which will greatly reduce the present cost of manufacture of such devices, thereby making them commercially desirable, and it is to be further noted that other minor details of construction may be resorted to that come withinthe scope of the present invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
What I claim is A framework having therein longitudinally extending parallel channeled side bars forming guide-ways and disposed on a predetermined incline, a transversely extending bar having its extremities movable along said guide-ways, guide members carried by said framework adjacent the upper extremities of the guide-ways, an auxiliary frame rotatably supported by the frame-work and movable about a horizontal pivot, flexible members passing over the guide members and secured at one of their ends to said bar at points opposite the longitudinal center thereof and at their opposite ends to the auxiliary frame, a longitudinally disposed threaded shaft working through said bar at substantially its longitudinal center and in threaded engagement therewith, a bearing carried by the framework in which said shaft is journaled, and means for rotating the shaft in opposite directions.
