The strip 41 is formed with openings 42 to receive the upper ends of the rods 38, the construction providing for the convenient removability of any one or all of the pounding wheels, as will be apparent. The spring 37 is adjustably secured by having its upper terminal fixed to the nut 43 arranged to cooperate with the threaded thimble 44 through which the rod 33 passes, the thimble being removably secured to the strip 41, as shown.
In connection with the means for operating'upon the material directly, I provide a means for properly placing the bones which may be with the material so that they will pass under the pounders Without so retarding the travel of the material as to tear it from the bones. This bone placer includes supporting plates 45 secured to the frame and formed with vertically extending slots 46 in which is mounted a shaft 47 of the corrugated or toothed roller 48, which is thus supported immediately above the platform 6 in advance of the pounding rollers. A shaft 49 is mounted in the supporting plates 45 above the roller, being provided at one end with a crank 50 and connected with the roller shaft through links 51 pivotally connected to radial projections 52 of the shaft. By this means'rotation of the shaft 49 will elevate the lower roller 48 with respect to the platform 6. The roller shaftis freely rotatable in one direction, being held against rotation in the opposite direction through the medium of 'a ratchet and dog 53.
The roller shaft may be rotated in any desirable manner, as for example as shown in Fig. 2, I have shown a hand lever 54 pivotally supported at its lower end at 55 and limited in play by strap 56, said lever being connected byvlinks 57 with'the crank 50 of the shafts 49, whereby the desired movement may be imparted to the roller shaft, the
throw of the lever causing rotation of the shaft.
The operation of the device will be fully apparent from the above description taken in connection with the drawings, it being obvious that material will be effectively treated in its passage through the pounder and that any and all parts may be quickly removed for cleaning, renewal, or repair.
What is claimed is 1. A steak pounder including a frame, a

A steak pounder including a frame, a toothed platform mounted for reciprocation in the frame, means for operating the platform, a series of rotating pounding elements mounted above the platform, supports formed with angularly related channels arranged in superimposed relation, a hanger of inverted U-form having bearing rollers to engage the upper channel, said hanger receiving-shafts of the rotating pounder, said shafts engaging the lower channels.
5. A steak pounder including a frame, a toothed platform mounted for reciprocation in the frame, means for operating the platform, a series of rotating pounding elements mounted above theplatform, and a bone depressor arranged in advance of the rotating pounders.
6. A steak pounder including a frame, a toothed platform mounted for reciprocation in the frame, in sans for operating the platform, a series of rotating pounding elements mounted above the platform, and a bone depressor arranged in ad'va-nce'of the rotating pounders, said depressor comprising a rotating element, means for adjusting said ele ment to and from the platform.
