Application aha mi 3, 1914. Serial no. mans.
' Housings for Pictures and the like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it' appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide a mounting or covering for mirrors and pictures behind a transparent covering for protecting the picture and mirror and the like against the action of dust, dirt and moisture.
\Vith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a picture frame and picture mounted therein provided with my improved protective means. Fig. 2 re resents a transverse sectional view throug 1 the picture frame. Fig.
3 represents an enlarged fragmental sectional view of the glass, picture and protective covering therefor, and Fig. 4 represents a fragmental perspective view of one of the resilient clips for securing the cover in operative position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate-like parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a section of plate glass behind which is arranged a picture orany other desired object 6 which it is desired to protect against the action ofdust, dirt, moisture and the like. A pluralit of sheets of cardboard or other suitable ackin'g 7 are arran ed behind the picture or other object 6. section of fabric or any other suitable material 8 is positionedagamst the layers of backing 7,and a coat of waterproof material 9 is interposed between the covering 8 and the material 7.'- The marginal edges '"10 of the covering 8 are engaged about the edges of the picture, or other object 6, and the glass or section of trans arent material 5 and the extremities of said edges are secured to the front face of the transparent material fi'adjaeent the edges of the latter. The edges of the corering 8 engaged upon the front face of the transparent material 5 are preferably reliably secured to the latter by a suitable adhesive and are adapted to be covered, as illustrated in Fig. 1, by the inner portions of a frame 11 of any preferred construction. Resilient clips 12, formed of metal or any other suitable material, are engaged over the covering 8, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. The covering 8, as stated, is formed of .fabric or any other suitable material, a
water-proof fabric being preferred.
From the foregoing it will beapparent that I have provided simple, eliicie'nt and inexpensive means for reliably sealing a picture or the like behind one face of a section of transparent material, whereby the picture or other object is clearly visible through the front of the transparent material. It is further evident that dirt, dust, moisture and the like is, reliably excluded from the picture.
What I claim is:
A device of the character described comprising a sheet of transparent material, an object mounted behind said transparent material and visible thcrethrough, a yieldabie backing arranged behind said object, a covering -arranged behind said backing constituting in conjunction with said transparent material an inclosure for said object, a layer of water-proof material interposed between said covering and said backing, said cover-.
ing extending inwardly a distance upon the front face of said transparent material and being secured thereto, and a plurality of resilient clips U-shaped in cross section securing the edges of said coverin upon the edges of said transparent material. n testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
