Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1915.
Application filed March 10, 1915. Serial No. 13,430.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD M. TULnsxI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in horseshoes, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby it may be effectively applied in operative position without the necessity of nails, now generally employed.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved horseshoe whereby certain important advantages are attained andthe device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now pro eed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a View in perspective of a horseshoe constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, a coacting hoof being indicated by dotted lines; Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view, partly in elevation and partly in section, of the toe portion of my improved horseshoe; and Fig. 8 is a view in perspective, detached, of a retaining member as herein included.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 11 denote substantially duplicate sections comprised in my improved horseshoe of requisite configuration and having their heel portions provided. with the inwardly disposed extensions 2 pivotally engaged one with the other as indicated at 3 and the toe extremities of said sections are bent upwardly, as indicated at 4, to overlie the toe of ahoof, as is believed to be clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and the free extremity of each of said toe portions l is bifurcated, as at 5, to receive the elongated shank 6, one extremity whereof being provided with the cross head 7 while the opposite extremity 8 isthreaded to be detachably engaged by the retaining member 9, herein disclosed as a conventional nut or bur. As is believed to be self-evident, upon requisite axial rotation of the retaining member 9, the toe portions of said sections 1 will be drawn one toward the other, for a purpose which will hereinafter be self-evident. Projecting upwardly from each of the sections 1 midway thereof and disposed on a requisite incline is a retaining plate 10 adapted to overlie the side of a hoof and.
having detachably engaged therewith the penetrating pins 11 adapted to impinge the hoof upon the relative inward movement being imparted to the sections 1 under the influence of the retaining member 9.
As herein embodied, each of the pins 11 has its butt extremity threaded and adapted for engagement within a correspondingly threaded aperture 12 suitably produced in a retaining plate 10. It is also to be observed that one of the toe portions d is provided in its outer face with transverse groove 1& intersecting the bifurcation 5 thereof and adapted to accommodate the head 7 of the shank 6, whereby it will be perceived that said shank is effectively held against axial rotation when my improved shoe is in applied position.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
A horseshoe of the character described comprising substantially duplicate sections pivotally connected at their heel extremities, the toe portions of the sections being provided with upstanding extensions adapted to overlie the hoof, each of said extensions having their free extremities bifurcated, plates carried by the sections midway thereof and provided with penetrating means, a clamping member adapted to be positioned within the bifurcated extremities of the toe head whereby the shank is maintained 10 extensions of the sections, said clamping against axial rotation.
member comprising a shank provided with In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my a cross head, and a retaining member adj ustsignature in the presence of two Witnesses.
' ably engageable With the shank, the face of one of the toe extensions with Which the BERNARD TULESKI' head of the shank coacts being provided Vitnesses:
with a groove intersecting the bifurcated MAX J. MALLECK,
portion thereof and adapted to receive said THOMAS SUPERzYNsKI.
