To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY L. EWING, citizen of the United States of America, residing at 1824: Canton street, Dallas, Texas, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Spring-Pulls for Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a spring pull device for door locks.
An object of the invention is to provide a door pull device which will be automatically spring actuated, the said device being provided with a push button and compression spring adapted to throw out a finger pull loop when said button is pressed.
It is also an object with others to provide a device of the character described which will be strong, durable and 'eflicient and one whose few working parts will be unlikely to get out of working order.
With these and other objects in view the invention has relation to a certain arrangement and combination of parts, a description of which is given in this specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the drawings wherein;
Figure 1 is a side illustration of the easing of an ordinary door lock with the spring actuated door pull device contained therein. The lock proper which is contained in the casing being in this illustration left entirely out as same is not in any way correlated with this invention. Fig. 2 is a front View of the casing. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken upon the line 0-0 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken upon the line aa of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a view taken upon the line b?) of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a pair of adjustable clamp plates correlated with the invention.
Referring now more in particular to the drawing wherein the same reference characters designate identical parts throughout, the numerals 1 and 2 respectively designate the walls and cover plate of the lock casing. A finger pull loop 3 is slidably confined within the casing and adapted, as later seen, to be projected through a slot in the wall 2. A lug 3, integrally formed with the wall of the casing, serves to limit the rearward displacement of the pull loop 3. An actuating bracket 4: is fixed to the pull loop, said bracket being provided with a slotted down turned portion 5 adapted to fit over and to be guided by a tube 6 fixed adjacent to the wall of the casing, said tube being further held in rigid and permanent position by an ear 7 integral with the floor. A slot 8 pro vided with beveled edges is formed in the actuating bracket and provided with adjustable clamping plates 9, said plates being clamped by a screw 10. A depending thrust head 11 is integrally formed with the lower plate and provided with an integral pin 12, said members 11 and 12 being confined and adapted to reciprocate in the tube 6. A slot 13 is formed in the tube to accommodate the thrust head. A compression spring 14 is confined within the tube and upon the pin 12 and adapted to subject the actuating bracket and correlated pull loop to outward displacement. It is seen how the pressure of the spring may be varied through the adjustment of the plates 9. A shoulder 15 is formed on the actuating bracket and adapted to impinge the lug 3 when the correlated mechanism is released and the compression spring throws the pull loop out; thereby limiting the pull loop in outward displacement.
A push arm 16 provided with a. release or push button is slidably confined in the casing and supported on a lug 18. The
push arm is provided with an integral lug 19 carrying a pin 20. The lug 19 is pro vided with adjustable plates similar to the plate 9. A compression spring 21 is confined between the lugs 18 and 19 and upon the pin 20 subjecting the push arm to outward displacement. A catch member 22 is pivoted to a lug 23, integrally formed with the wall of the casing, as indicated by the numeral 24-. A pin 25 establishes a pivotal relation between the catch member and push arm. The said catch inemberis pro vided with a trigger 26 adapted to engage a shoulder 27 formed on the actuating bracket.
The correlated elements are all shown in normal position. The casing which here is adapted to house the spring actuated elements is also adapted to house and contain the lock proper which looks into the adj acent similar lock casing contained in the adjacent door. It is clearly seen how a slight pressure on the button will disengage the catch member from the actuating bracket and allow the pull loop to be easily driven out, where it can be easily and con veniently reached.
This form of door pull has many advantages over the ordinary type in that the pull loop is positively exposed on pushing the button, while the old form is lever actuated and rarely exposes more than one third of the pull loop.
This invention is presented as including all such modifications and changes as may properly come within the scope of the following claims. 7
I claim v I 1. In a spring actuated door pull, a pull loop, an actuating bracket correlated with the pull loop, a tube, a compressionlspring confined in the=tube and correlated with the actuating bracket and a push button correlated with the actuating bracket.
2. In a spring actuated door pull, a pull loop; an actuating bracket correlated with the pull loop; a thrust head correlated with the actuating bracket, a tube, a slot formed in the tube, a; compression spring confined in the tube, the aforesaid thrust head correlated with the said compression spring and a push button correlated with the actua'ting bracket.
In a spring actuated door pull, a pull loop; an actuating bracket correlated with the pull loop, a slot formed in the actuating bracket, adjustable clamping plates correlated with the-slot-in the actuating bracket, a thrust headcorrelated with the clamping plates, a tube, a slot formed in the tube, a compression spring confined within the tube, the aforesaid thrust head correlated with the compression spring, and a push button correlated with the actuating bracket.

In a spring actuated door pull, a pull loop, an actuating bracket correlated with the pull loop, a slot formed in the actuating bracket, adjustable clamping plates correlated with the slot in the actuating bracket, a thrust head correlated with the clamping plates, a tube, a slot formed in the tube, a compression spring confined within the tube, the aforesaid thrust head correlated with the compression spring, a push button correlated with the actuating bracket and a release member correlated with the'push button and actuating bracket.
5. In aspring actuated door pull, a pull loop, an-actuating bracket correlated with the pull loop, a slot formedin the actuating bracket, adjustable clamping plates correlated with the slot in the actuating bracket, a thrust head correlated with the clamping plates, a tube, a slot formed in the tube, a compression spring confined within the tube, the aforesaid thrust head correlated with' the compression spring, a push button correlated with the actuating bracket, a pusharm, a spring correlated with the push arm, apush button carried by the push arm and a release member correlated with the push armand actuating bracket.
6. In aspring actuated door pull, a pull loop, a tube, anda spring confined in said tube adapted to actuate the pull loop.-
