To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYLvns'rnR E. Mc4 PHERsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roller Window-Screens, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to improvements in window screens, and it provides a screen which is adapted to be a permanent fixture secured to the window frame. By permanently attaching the screen and its complemental fixtures to the frame of the win-A dow, the disadvantages attendant upon the use of the usual type of window screen are eliminated. Q

`Referring to the drawings annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, and in which I have illustrated one preferred embodiment of my invention z-Figure 1 is a front elevation (outside view) showing a' screen, constructed according to my invention, vin position on the window frame. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the screen shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view of the screen and roller in position, one of `the supporting plates being removed. Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the rollers with parts broken away to show the details thereof. Fig. 5 is an end elevational view of the roller shown in. Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a sectional side .plan view showing the guide attached to the casing and the screen in position. 4lteferring to the drawings z-Mounted on the window frame 1 at the top thereof are the two members 2 and 3, said member 2 being adapted to receive the round end pin 4 of the screen roller 5, and the member 3 being adapted to receive the rectangular end pin 6 of the slide screen roller. At the sides of the window frame 1 are mounted the guidel strips 7 having the circular grooved portion 8, the purpose of which will be hereinafter set forth. I
The screen 9 is composed of lieXiblewire mesh bound at the side edges with wire cord 9a such as is used for hanging pictures which is adapted to reinforce the mesh and also adapted to run in the circular groove portions S'of the guide strips 7. The mesh is secured at the top to the screen roller 5 which is constructed similar to the ordinary curtainrfoll being. composed of the cylindrical shell 10 to which the mesh is attached and is closed at the ends by the members 2 and 3, the whole being mounted on the rod 11 with which the end pins l and 6 are integral. lVithin the cylindrical shell 10 is. disposed a coil spring 12 having one end 13 attached to the rod 11 and the other end 11 attached to the member 3 so that when the' wire mesh is unwound from the said screen roll 5, the coil spring 12 will be'placed under tension. Secured to the pin 6 is a collar 15 having a notch 16 therein, the said notch 16 having beveled edges and being adapted to receive :the dog 17 mounted on the member 3, and
which serves to stop the roller 5 in any desired position. Secured to the bottom edge of the flexible wire mesh is the handle strip 18 adapted to facilitate the raising and lowering of the screen.
Mounted on the frame 1 and entirely covering the roller 5 is the curved guard 19 having its lower edge extending inwardly and beaded as shown at 20, sai'd edge being adapted tol engage the iexible wire mesh as shown in Fig. 3, and form a fly tight joint.

It will be evident from a comparison. of Figs. 2 and 6 that the cords 9a attach to the mesh 9 in such manner that the centers of the cords are on the outside of the'mesh and consequently the cords takev the rub when the mesh is passing over the edge ofthe guard 19 and so preserves the mesh from l wear.
