Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLARENCE J S'roNnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Linoleum- Racks; and I'do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in linoleum racks for hoisting and displaying rolls of linoleum in stores, etc.

The invention comprises a simple and efficient apparatus of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the linoleum rack made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view in elevation, a part being shown in section. Fig. 4: is an end view of a roll, and Fig. 5 is a detail of a crank.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letters, A. designates the framework of the apparatus, made preferably of angle iron, and B designate cross bars upon the frame and which support cradles C.

D designate tubular metallic steel pipes which are adapted to be placed through the central axial openings in the rolls of linoleum, designated by letter E, and each tube has a pin D passing through registering apertures in the wall thereof and adapted to receive the slots R formed in the end of the socket portion of the handle R and forming a convenient means for rotating the tube. The linoleum is held to the roller D by means of a bar R passing through an aperture in the collar R and which latter is mounted upon the end of the tube, a suitable set screw R carried by the collar serving as a means for holding the bar so that its inner end will frictionally engage and hold a fold of the linoleum to rotate with the shaft D, as shown clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

Pivotally mounted upon a bolt F upon the upper portion of the frame is a swinging beam H carrying a pulley block I, and J designates a second pulley block which is fastened to one of the plugs D inserted in a tube.

A cable N is fastened at one end to the frame and passes underneath the pulley in the block J and thence over the pulley in the block I and extends to and Winds about the drum 0 which is mounted upon a shaft 0 earned by the frame, and a suitable handle Q is fastened by screws Q to the drum or pulley O and affords means for rotating the same. Said shaft, it will be noted, has two drums, similarly mounted, one upon each end of the frame and two cables similarly connected and mounted upon pulleys.

By the arrangement shown, it will be noted that the cable and pulley apparatus is so mounted that the beam H may be swung from one side to the other for the purpose of raising rolls of linoleum or other material upon the cradles upon one side or the other of the frame.

The operation of my invention will be readily understood and is as follows When it is desired to hoist a roll of linoleum, it is rolled up against one side of the rack or frame, the steel pipe inserted through the opening in the center. The bars R are made to clamp the linoleum to rotate with the pipes. By winding upon the reel, the roll may be raised opposite the cradles in which the ends of the pipes which pass through the roll are to be deposited and the rolls swung back to the position shown in the end view. The rolls may be elevated to one side or the other by merely swinging the beam upon the pivot F. When it is desired to rewind linoleum upon a pipe, the slotted socket of a handle is inserted within the pipe and made to engage the pin D', it being understood that each pipe has a pin D mounted therein for this purpose.

By the provision of an apparatus em bodying the features of my invention, it

will be noted that a simple and efficient apparatus is afforded whereby large and unwieldy rolls of linoleum and other material may be held to the position desired for display purposes and the material unwound therefrom and rewound.
