Description
ALA. McPHEETER'S & a. P. McPHEET ERS.
Improvement in Water-Elevators.
' Patented April 25,1871
Wituwm:
the
ARGHIBALD A. MOPHEETERS AND RGBERT-P. MoPHEETE RS, OF ARBOR HILL, VIRGINIA.
Letters Patent no, 114,176, dated April 25, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT lN WATER-ELEVATORS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ARCHIBALD A.- MOPHEE- Trans and ROBERT P. McPnn-n'rnns, of Arbor Hill, in the county of Augusta and State of Virginia, have invented a new and improved Water-Elevator and Carrier; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making at part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view, and
Figure 2 is a section through the cross-bar that bears the spring bolts.
This invention is an improvement on that for which Letters Patent No. 102,955. were granted'to us.
The invention consists in rollers placed lengthwise of'the carrier, one at each side of the chain-wheel, for thepurpose of preventing the chain from slipping off the wheel in raising a bucket or other weight from a. point not directly beneath the wheel, and in at crossbar attached to the lower side of the carrier and hearing in its ends spring bolts, which pass under the rails of the elevated track and serve to prevent the wheels from being thrown therefrom, thespring bolts slipping back when passing the supports.
Referring to the drawing-- 0 G are the longitudinal rollers placed one at each side of the chain-wheel B, beneath the axle of the some, and serving to guide the chain A to the wheel when the. bucket or other weight is not directly beneath the wheel.
D is the cross-bar attached tothe lower side of the carrier E.
F are the spring bolts in the ends of the cross-bar, which bolts take under the track-rails and preventthe wheels from jarring off, said bolts slipping back. when the carrier passes the supports of the track, and slipping out again after passing the supports.
Having thus described our invention,
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of the carrier ,E. chain-wheel B, and rollers O, as specified.
2. The combination of the carrier E, cross-bar D, and spring bolts F, as described.
ARGHIBALD A. MOPHEETERS. ROBERT P. MGPHEE'IERS.
