To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD BRUNHOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Venders Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in display stands for vending cigars and other articles.

One of its objects is to provide improved mechanism to receive and hold the containers in which the goods are packed and to uncover, display and present the goods in one or more containers upon pressure of a lever.

Another object is to provide a display stand which will support one or more containers in closed condition so as to display the labels thereon, and which will readily uncover the containers upon pressure on a lever to enable the contents of the container to be withdrawn.

Another object is to provide improved lever actuated mechanism to disengage the container from its lid and shift it to a position where the contents can be removed, and

to automatically return the container into engagement with the lid.

My invention also comprises certain de tails of form, combination and arrangement, all of which will be fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings in which;

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display stand embodying my invention in its nor mal or rest position. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section on line 12 o of Fig. 1, illustrating the parts in full line in normal or rest position, and in dotted line in the position assumed when the lever is actuated.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention in which A represents a stationary casing, preferably of' sheet metal. The base of casing A may rest upon a counter or other convenient support. At the front and if desired at the sides the upper portion of the casing is open and its lower portion preferably closed. Across the top of the casing are rigidly supported one or more members B which are conical or inwardly tapered on the lower face to readily engage and close the mouths of the containers, and above are preferably proportioned to receive and support the lids 2 of the containers. I have illustrated two containers, as for instance sheet. metal cigar boxes D and D, but any desired number and type of containers may be employed. Each container is detachably seated upon a bracket E and locked thereto by a screw or other locking element 3.

The brackets E have depending arms I which are perforated to receive the rods E and G, upon which the brackets E are supported. The ends of the rods F and G' are seated in cam grooves H formed in or carried by the side walls of the casing A. I preferably form the cam grooves H in separate members 5 and attach said members to the inner faces of opposite sides of the casing A, thus enabling the side walls of the casing to resist any end thrust of the rods F and G.

The rods F and G are held substantially parallel to each other and a uniform distance apart by the depending arms 4 through which they pass, and springs 6 attached to the side walls of the casing engage arm F at opposite ends and hold the rods F and G in the upper portion of the cam slots, and also support the weight of the brackets E and containers D, D carried by said rods, and force the upper open ends of the containers into engagement with the under conical faces of the stationary members B to close the mouths of said containers.

A hand lever K is pivoted at 8 to the casing A and rests at an intermediate point upon the rod G, while its handle projects forward of the containers D, D. Pressure downward upon the lever K causes the ends of rods F and Gr to travel downwardly in the cam grooves H, carrying the brackets E and containers D D with them. The cam grooves are of such pattern that at first the travel of the containers is vertically downward, and later when the rod Gr enters the curved section of the cam grooves, the containers are'inclined forwardly at their upper open ends as indicated in dotted lines Fig. 2 to free the containers first by a vertical and then by an inclined movement from the stationary lid members B, and to bring the containers to a position where their contents can be examined or removed. As soon as pressure on the lever K is removed, the containers, actuated by springs 6, by a reverse movement return to their normal or closed position in engagement with the lid members B, where they are held to prevent the escape of moisture or the entrance of dust.

The containers may be readily removed and replaced with others from time to time as required, and a series of containers con taining different grades of stock may be exposed for inspection by operating a single lever, and automatically returned to closed position.

The mechanism hereinillustrated and described is capable of considerable modification Without departing from the principle of my invention.

Having described my invention What I claim is:

1. A display stand comprising a casing, lids stationarily carried by said casing, container supporting brackets to detach-ably hold containers, cams carried by said casing to guide said brackets, a lever to depress said brackets, and means to yieldingly hold said brackets in elevated position With the mouth of said containers in contact With said lids.
