T0 aZZ whom i may concem Be it known that I, ERNEST J. ALLEN, a. subject of King George V of Great Britain, residing at the city of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful'Improvements in Gas Heaters and Stores, of which the followingr is a specification.
My invention relates to gas heaters and stoves, and the object oi my invention is to provide a gas heater or stove so constructed that the burning` gases will be controlled in order that the largest possible amount of the heat may be utilized; together with suoli elements and combinations as are hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed. I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying," drawing, in which:
Figure l is a plan. Fig. 2 is a section along the lines, A-A on Fig. l.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views. i
lWithin av suitable receptzuxle, A, l place the fire brick, ll, forming a hearth, through which are a series of gas inlets, (l, for the admission of the gaseous' mixtures. The hearth is preferably separated from the gaseous mixture chamber, D, by .means ot suitable conduits, gas inlets, C, are formed. ll place a. perforated plate, F, a short distance above the Specification of Letters Patent.
. tions,
14),.11', through which the i Patented June t, i915., serial no. 834,474.
mouth of the openings, C, in the fire brick,
he gaseous mixture chamber, D, is connected' to a gasanixing apparatus, not shown. The plate tends to confine the heat to the hearth. The gas passing from the gaseous mixture chamber, D, through the gas inlets, C, is lighted beneath the plate, l?. The burnt gases escape through the perfora- H, in the plate, F.
As thus arranged and connected up the heat from the burning gases is intense Within the hearth and .by the plate, F, being perforated permits the products of combustion, the latent gases. to pass out Without .forming beneath the plate where they would interfere with the conductivity of the heat in the burning gases.v
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A hearth comprising` a receptacle; tire brick placed therein: a series of conduits passing through said receptacle and said fire brick: a gas mixing' chamber with which said conduits register; and aperforated plate in said hearth above the openings `of said conduits.
ln testimony whereof l have affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ERNEST J. ALLEN.
