Applcationled September 17, 1914. Serial No. 862,220.
To all whom it may concern y Be it known that I, JOHN H. RmnNoUn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muskogee, in the county of Muskogee and State `of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Posts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawlngs. l This invention relates to sign posts, and particularly to sign posts adapted for use at street corners to indicate the names of intersecting streets.
An object of this invention is the provision of a sign post of this character which is v adapted to permanently support sign plates bearing the namesof the intersecting streets, the post being also adapted to detachably support sign plates bearing advertising matter.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a sign post which is extremely simple in construction and which will be very efficient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is an elevational view vof my improved post; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the manner of securing the advertising plates to the main sign plate; Fig. 4 is a top plan view; Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the lamp sup- .porting means; and Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the manner in which the opposing edges-of the advertising plates `are engaged against the wings of the post.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a base, of concrete or other similar plastic material, in which is formed a vertically angular recess 2. The post 3 is constructed of an angle bar which is formed with .a pair of right angularly extending wings 4, the lower end of the post being adapted for engagement in the lS'Iieeiication of Letters latent.

recess 2 in the'bas'e, whereby the post is supported 1n a perpendicular position. Rig- 1dly secured to the upper endof thepost nby riyets or the like, is an angular sign plate 5 which consists of a pair of right angularly extendmg portions 6, the portions 6 at their Juncture being engaged against the outer faces of the wings 4 of the post. The ,sign plate 5 is adapted to bear on the opposite faces of its angularly extending portions, the names of the streets with which the portions 6 extend longitudinally and to strengthen the portion 6' and prevent the same from bending, laterally extending flanges 7 are formed on their upper edges.
Secured to the inner face of each portion 6 at its lower edgeV is a longitudinal supporting strip 8, one edge of the strips projecting below the lower edge of the portions, and formed in the projecting portions of the strips are a plurality of openings. Adapted for detachable connection to the strips 8 are advertising sign plates 9 in the upper edges of which openings are formed to register with the openings in thestrips 8, the registering openings receiving the fastening bolts l0 whereby the advertising plates 9 ,are carried by the sign plate 4 with their inner edges engaged against the outer face of the wings of the post. To further support the plates 9 in position, openings are formed in each of the wings which register with openings formed in the plates, thelatter registering openings also receiving fastening bolts 10. Secured tothe upper face of the meeting ends of the langes7 is a plate 11 which is provided with an upstanding stem 12, the stem being adapted to support a lamp, which will illuminate the signs at night.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided asign post to which a street indicatingsign may be permanently connected, the street indicating sign carrying means whereby advertising sign plates may bedetachably connected theretoso that the advertising plates may be changed at intervals. By' providing the flanges 7 on the upper edges of the angularly extending portions of the sign plate 5, an
