SPRINKLER'. i APPLICATION F11EnocT.1s, 1914.

WITNESS/5S 'WILLIAM s; Tmswnnr., or LANSING, monteren.
SPRINKLER.
I A TocZZ lwhom t mayeoncem:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. TIDSWELL,
a 'citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lansing, in thecounty 'of InghamV and State of Michigamhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sprinklers,
.of which the following is a specification, referencezbeing had thereinto the accompanylng drawings. A p
My invention relates to sprlnklers and has among. the objects thereofto provide'a con- `jects thereof to provide a device that may be easily and cheaply manufactured.
Other objects of the invention will more fullyhereinafter appear.
bottom.
The invention resides in the peculiar construction,v arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, Figure' 1 is a perspective view `ofthe device embodying the invention;
Fig.' 2l is a longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 3' is a section on the line of Flg. 2; and Fig. 4 illustrates a modication.
My improved sprinkler comprises sides Al and B and a bottom C, the sides and bottom preferably being flat and formed from a single piece of metal.` The upper 'edges of the sides are substantially semicircular in shape, as indicated in Fig. 2, and secured 'to thel upper edges ofthe sides is a Hat strip D provided with a plurality of perforations. This strip closes the upper-edges of the sides and has its ends secured to the ends of the Preferably there are two rows of perforations E and l", the rows being arranged adjacent the sides v and-B ,while 'the members of one row are arranged in staggered relation to the members vof the Specification of Letters latent. i

vApplicatie;mea oetpbez 16,1914. seriainaseaeaa other row, whichwill be readily apparent upon reference to Fig. l. The perfcrations -are comparatively small, preferably being about l/ 100 of an inch in size and therefore the water discharged from the apertures or perforations'is in the form of a fine spray,
while by staggering the perforations one row 1n' relation to those of another, it is foundthat the stream discharged from the sprinkler not only is in the form of a mist or very fine spray but also is comparatively uniform.
Secured to one of the sides as A is a coupling G for engaging a hose ory the like.
If desired a defiector may be 'employedwhich .extend-s upwardly` .from theI bottom at an' angle' to the walls A and B, which will;` tend to break the force of the water entering the sprinkler. i i
Because of the shape of the sprinkler the stream discharged therefrom will he restricted in area, which allows the sprinkler not only to be Set close to sidewalks'or the like but also permits the sprinkler to be -attached to a spray-pole for spraying trees bushes or thelike. a
Myimproved constructionof sprinkler is one which not only is very desirablel since' it throws a very fine spray, but also the lsprinkler is simple in. construction and may be easily and cheaply manufactured.
What l claim as my invention is A sprinkler, .comprising a comparatively fiat base and upwardly-extending sides having similarly arched upper edges, of a perforated strip secured to said edges forming 4the sprinkler top, a coupling connected to one of thev sides, and a deiector within the sprinkler extending upwardly from the base at anv angle to the side walls.
ln testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of twolwitnesses.
p v WILLIAM S. TIDSWELL.
