T0 all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IELEN A. PRINCE, of Portland, inthe county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Surgical Corsets, of which the following is a specifcation.
My invention relates to a corset adapted to be worn by women who have been subjected to an abdominal surgical operation. In many abdominal operations women are left with a vertical scar extending centrally over the abdomen. Such scars are extremely sensitive and the ordinary corset with its rigid fastening steels cannot be worn.
The object of my invention is to produce a corset which while having the appearance and characteristics of the ordinary corset 'is free from any rigid part liable to bear along the center line of the abdomen.
A further object is to provide an abdominal supporter in connection with the corset which supports the abdomen below the lower end of the corset proper with a gentle support at the center line.
These objects I carry out by means of the corset hereinafter described and claimed.
My inventionmay best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which is shown a corset constructed in ac- In the drawing, Figure lis al perspective view of my corset, Fig. is a view showing the abdominal supporter, and Fig. 3 is a View of a tab used in connection withy the corset.
In the drawing, a represents the body of the corset which may be "constructed in any well known manner.
According to my invention the fastening steels c are located a short distance at 'one side of the center line of the .front` and attached to one of said fastening steels is a strip ofk cloth o preferably about 3 inches in width and-free from any stays or stiening devices.
f The rabdominal supporter designated gen-k erally by D is made up of a relatively wide band formed of elastic webbingat each end with a section of flexible cloth in the center corresponding to the strip l) of the corset Specification of Letters Patent.

proper. As here shown, each end of ther supporter D is formed of horizontally disposed strips of elastic webbing d and ahav-y ing eyelets e at the ends. The central section Z2 is of flexible cloth and is united to one of the end sections" by a row of ysnap fastenersv e. Y
. The abdominal supporter is secured to the body of the corset on the inside by lacing cords f which pass through the eyelets e in the supporter D and through eyelets a' formedr in the corset body. That portion of the corset to which the supporter D is laced has a vertical gore whichfforms a down-` wardly extending flap a2. The lacing holes a are formed along each side of the gore and the lacing cords f not only secure the supporter D in place but they also bring the edges of the gore together. Thus the lacing cord f permits regulation of the tension of the supporter and also the fit of the corset around the'hips and also rgives a yielding tension on the hip portion of the corset. The number and location of the eyelets a are such kthat thesupporter'may be adjusted vertically.
For the purpose of securing a sanitary i napkin when the same is required I provide a tab g which has snapbuttons g adapted to yengage fasteners b in the lower kend of the strip o. yThis tab can be easily and quickly applied yand removed. The tab is made with va section of elastic webbngg2 which isinserted in the middle with a strip of' plainl cloth g3 below to which the napkin may be pinned.
yA. corset constructed in this manner may Y be wornwith comfort by a woman having a 'sensitive scar in the center of the. abdomen and it'also makes an easy and comfortable corset for general use since there 1s no harsh pressure on the solar pleXus,-a-point which is sensitive in most persons.
\ Inremoving the corset the fastening steels yare unbuttoned in the usual manner and the abdominal supporter is separated by releasingthe vsnap fasteners e. n The corset is put vertically over the abdomen and at one side tral section of cloth forming a continuation of the center thereof, a relativelysnarrow of said strip. 10 strip of unstayed flexible cloth secured to In testimony whereof I have aiiXed my one of saiol` steels.l and forming the central signature, in presence of two witnesses.
