SEALING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, losers D. Enomooe, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the countyof New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful l'n'iprovements in Sealing Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
This invention relates to a sealing device.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of'this character by means of Which doors of freight cars or the like may be locked and efiectively sealed.
A further object of the invention is to make provision in the device for the sealing of the loci: in such manner that it will be im posslble to unlock .the same-without completely destroying the said seal.
'Wi'th'these and other iobiects in view, such as will appear as the description progresses my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling ithin the scope'of the appended claims. x
In. the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation "of my device showing the same in locked position; Fig. 2 isa plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. '1, and Fig. his a section on the line .1-4 at Fig. 2.-
Referring to-the drawings by reference characters wherein like parts are indicated hy like characters throughqutthe several.
views: my device comprises a plate 1 havan outwardly projecting lug 2 thereon to.
which is termed an opening 3. This member 1 is arranged to be secured to the jamh of a door. Detachably secured to this lug 2 is a hasp 4 which has a hinged portion 5 thereon the said portion having knuckles 6 thereon which register with a knuckle 7 on the said hasp 4- Passing through these registering ears is a pin which is countersunk inthe ears 6 and preventedfrom longitudinal displacement-by outwardly extending flanges 9 on the said member 5, the latter ears bearing a ainst the ends of the said in. A. olate l is provided and is arranged to he secured to the jamb in spaced relation to the said plate 1. Pivotally mounted on this plate l-is a hook 1.1 which he downwardly extending cc'rv d hill 1.2 the hill being of the same ration in cross Specification of Letters Patent.

through the lug 2. in the lower ends of this bill 12 is a transversely extending rectangular. hole 13 which terminates in openings in through the hole 13 after the bill has been inserted through the hole in the lug 2 so that the ends of the said pin'15 project from the openings in the face of the said hill. A
suitahle tool is thenplaoed in-the hole 1% to one side of the said pin 15 and force is applied thereto so that the metal at this point in the pin 15 is pressed from both sides of the hole l t'and is spread to fill the counter bore which is grooved in the center of the hole 14. The ends of thesaid pin 15 are then upset so as to doubly prevent the ex- 'tracting of the said Din Without so m1itilatthe upset portion on both sides of the pin is cutavvayby a conveniently sharp instrument such as a knife or the like, the pin is then pulled from the other side, of the hill 1%, shearing the portion of the metal in the hole 14, therefrom. lhe. portion of the pin thus remaining in the hole 14 maybe readily punched therefrom and the bill. 12 "-Withdrawn from the lugQ so that the hasp" 4 may be disengaged from the said lug and the door conveniently opened.
From the foregoing description it may be readily seen that l have provideda sealing device by meansof. which looks may be so sealed that they may not be opened Without destroying said seal.
' While I have illustrated my device in con nection with a particular kind of lock I Wish it to be understood that different types may tion with sliding doors, and I therefore do 101E. be used, for instance those used in connecnot Wish tohe limited to the-particular construction illustrated as 'it is obvious that numerous other changes may be made in the details .of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention and Without exceeding the scope of the claims.
What is claimed 151"" 1. A device for securm a nasp to a keeper including a pin arrange to extend through said keeper, the said pin having; transversely :ing holes extending through said last mentioned hole extending holes arranged at right angles to each other and a pin mounted in one of said holes and having a portion thereof extending into the other of said holes.
2. A device for securing a hasp to a keeper including a pin arranged o extend through said keeper, and having transversely extendtherein arranged at right angles to each other, one of said holes having enlargements between itsends' and a metallic strip and having a portion extending into the I other of said transversely extending holes JOSEPH D. ELDRIDGE.
