To all we]: om it may concern Be it known that I, EMMA A. OBamn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wichita, in the county of Sedgw1ck and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Tracing-Board, of which the following is a specification.

lhe resent invention appertams to a tracing card, and aims to provide a novel and improved tracing or marking board, upon which fabric or textile goods or material may be placed, in order that a tracing wheel, stylus or similar implement may be run over the oods along the lines to be marked, and w iereby there will be deposited upon the under side of the goods, a chalk line, which will facilitate the marking and cutting of the goods the present device being adapted particularly for use by dressmakers and tailors, although it may be employed in divers manners.

The invention contemplates the provision of a device of the nature indicated, which will be of such unique construction, that the whiting or chalk will be held properly in place thereon, and whereby the chalk or whiting may be properly applied to the goods when the tracing wheel, stylus or similar implement is pushed or drawn over the goods while lying upon the board.

It is also within the scope of the present invention, to provide a tracing or marking board which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive in construction, as well as being convenient, practical and eilicient in its use.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the comination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departin from the spirit of the invention.

lhe invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure l is a perspective view of the imroved tracing or marking board, portions eing broken away to disclose the several layers or plies constituting the active portion of the board. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional detail through the marginal portion of the board.

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a frame 1 of suitable size and contour so as to receive the textile goods or fabric thereon properly. Secured upon the frame 1 is a panel 2, of beaver board or other suitable fiber or com osition, and which forms the base or foun ation for the chalk or whiting applying portions.

Disposed upon t e panel 2 is a sheet of cotton flannel 3, which has its fleece side 4 disposed u permost. The whiting or chalk 5 is rubbe 1n the fleece side 4: of the cotton flannel sheet 3, which will prevent the whiting or chalk from drifting or shifting when the board is set on edge or inclined.

A. sheet of cheese cloth or fabric of fine mesh designated by the numeral 6, is dispose u on the fleece side 4: of the cotton flannel s eet 3, and has the ollice of preventing the whiting or chalk from blurrin when the chalk line or mark is being applied to the goods.

A covering 7 of net or coarse mesh material is disposed upon the fine mesh sheet 6, and serves to support the material above the sheet 6 through which the whiting or chalk passes.

To secure the sheets or plies 3, 6 and 7 u on the panel or base 2, the marginal or e ge portions of the sheets or plies are folded or bent over the margin of the frame 1, and a binding strip 8 of any suitable material is assed around the marginal portions of tie sheets and frame, and secured thereto by tacks or other securing elements 9 driven through the strip 8 and taking into the frame 1.

In using the present'tracing or marking board, the fabric or textile goods to be marked, is placed flatly upon the board in the proper or desired manner and a tracing wheel, stylus, or other suitable im lement is then run over the goods along t e lines desired, as when laying off the parts of a suit, dress or other garment, and as a result, the tracing wheel, stylus, or other implement will push or force the goods through the holes or apertures of the coarse mesh sheet 7, whereby oods in being brou ht in contact with the hue mesh sheet 6 wii have a line or lines of points of whiting applied thereto. It will thus be noted that the sheet or ply 7 which is uppermost, being of a coarse mesh, will serve to support the material or goods above the sheet or ply 6 which is permeated by the whiting or chalk, to

prevent the goods from being chalked upon its lower side with the whiting or chalk, except when the stylus or tracing wheel is run over the goods. The fine mesh sheet 6 lying under the sheet 7 will prevent the whitin or chalk from blurring when being applie to the goods, since the point or area of contact of the goods and sheet 6 will be limited. The rough surface provided by the coarse mesh of the sheet 7 will also prevent the goods from slipping thereon while being marked.

The resent board is adapted to be employed by dressmakers, tailors and the like, for laying off the arts of various garments in a convenient an desirable manner, as will be obvious from the foregoing taken in conneetion with the drawing.

The whiting or chalk 18 preferably in the Copies of this patent may be obtained for form of a finely ulverized powder, and if desired may be cc ored when used in connec tion with white or light goods.
