`citizen of theUnited States, residing at V anchor plates, and has particular reference to a plate for use in bonding or tying studs to a cement Hoor, wall, pier or the like.

AThe object .of myV invention is the provision of an anchor plate which will obviate the usage of a wooden sill or the like, or the necessity of toe-nailing the stud to the sill.

A further object of the invention is the provision of 'a device of this character which will permit the studs to be bolted directly thereto and the entire device is secured in the flooring or cement.

Other objects of the invention are the provision of an anchor plate which will be cheap and inexpensive of production; simple in construction and efficient and thoroughly practical from every point of view.

My invention, broadly stated, consists of an anchor plate embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts for service substantially as disclosed herein.

Figure l represents a front elevation of the stud and anchor platel attached thereto. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of a modied form of my anchoring device, and Fig. 4 represents a vertical sectional view thereof.

In the drawings: The numeral I designates the stud or post, having bolted thereto at 2, the anchor plate 3, which is cast in one piece, and has the transverse ribs 4 extending horizontally thereacross, and the longitudinal ribs 5 extending vertically downward therefrom, said ribs being formed integral therewith and tending to form partitions or pockets for the reception of the cement or concrete. The lower section of the plate 3, is provided with the openings G, extending therethrough, said openings adapted to be filled with the cement and thus securely bind the anchor plate in place. The' lower edge of the plate 3, is provided with the corrugations or notches 7, which tend to impinge in the concrete and thus' serve to anchor the plate more rmly. The plate is, moreover, provided with a projecting point or toe 8, which extends into the concrete or cement and thus more securely anchor same, and I find this construction exceedingly desirable in floor work or the like. When however, the anchor plate is to be used upon a cement wall or pier, the toe 8, is omitted, as I have found from experience that this form of anchor plate will perform its functions better. Suitable eyes 9, and brace or tie rods 10, maybe secured to the anchor plate for additional securing purposes, said rods being designed to be buried in the cement and thus anchor the entire device. I may also provide the anchor plate with the Ventilating spaces or recesses l1, which are designed to permit the outside air to enter between the plate and the stud and thus prevent decomposition.

In the modified form of anchoring device shown in Figs. 3 and 4, I employ a plate or casting having a recess l2', to receive the stud or post and the base portion 13 having openings 14, to receive the cement in which the anchor is embedded, said form also having the transverse and horizontal ribs as in Figs. 1 and 2.

It will be readily seen that by casting the plate with partitions in one side only, I may provide a pattern which will be perfectly level and flat upon one side thereof, while the other side will have the usual partitions or ribs, which construction I have found extremely desirable where difficulties in the molding or casting are encountered.

It will also be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement set forth herein, but that I may make such changes, alterations and modiications as come clearly within the scope and spirit of my invention.

An anchoring device consisting of a casting having a base portion and a plurality of longitudinal and vertical ribs and a vertical web in conjunction with said vertical and longitudinal ribs forming an upper and lower recess in said casting, the upper recess receiving the lower end of the post and the lower recess receiving cement, a nose formed on the casting, and a tie rod secured to said nose.

A device of the character described, comprising a lower corrugated base, a projecting toe or nose, tie rods secured thereon, a plurality of longitudinally and horizontally extending ribs cast integral therewith, a vertical connecting rib Jfor said ribs forming pockets having openings therein, a retaining means adapted to ill said openings to secure said plate and stud in position.
