To all whom it may concern Be it known that l[, ALBRECHT SGHWARZ- HAUPT, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at 44 Rue du Chateau dEau, Paris, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Processes for Manufacturing Powder-Puffs of Wool Filaments or Similar Matter.
This invention relates to an improved process for manufacturing powder puifs of.
wool or similar material.
According to my present invention, 1 provide a convenient and economical process of manufacturing puffs of wool.
The new process permits of the use of combed wool, but any other kind of filaments capable of retaining the powder and spreading it on the skin may be employed.
According to the present invention a powder puff is obtained by compressing a bundle of filaments of any convenient length, within a destructible tube, one extremity of the bundle of filaments being retained compressed until fitted to the top or handle, while the other end portion is released by removing the tube, and the filaments expand and form the puff.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view of a destructible tube containing the compressed filaments. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a section of a tube and bundle of filaments, of suchlength as will form a puff. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of a base or handle to which the end of the section of tube shown in Fig. 2 is attached. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the filament tube shown in Fig. 2, fixed to a handle. Fig. 5 is a sectional View of a completed puff.
In carrying this invention into practice 'a tube of paper or other destructible material a, is filled with a compressed mass of filaments of threads 6. This tube is cut transversely into short lengths as shown in Fig. 2, is then glued or otherwise fastened to a suitable handle a, as shown in Fig. 4. The destructible tube a, is then removed and when the compression is removed the filaments spread out and form a symmetrical puff as shown in Fig. 5.
The more the filaments are compressed in the tube, the thicker and more shapely will be the puff.
A simple coating of gum will in most circumstances be sufiicient to secure the filament tubes to the handle, but if a strengthening means be required, a piece of linen, canvas, or other fabric can be used on the end of the tube or may if desired form a wrapper therefor.
It will be understood that I do not limit myself to the special constructions of powder puffs, shown, but desire to use any modification thereof which would reasonably fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is The herein described method of making powder puffs, which consists in securing one end of a bundle of filaments held under compression in a destructible tube to a handle, and then destroying the tube, and thereby permitting the filaments to expand and form a pufi'.
