To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN AUGUSTUS ALBRECHT, a citizen of the United States of America, at present residing at Chansseestrasse 23, Berlin, N. 4, in the Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Typographical Machines, of which the following is a specification. v
The present inve tion relates to improved means for quick changing a magazine in a multiple magazine composing and distributing machine and is advantageously ap plicable to multiple magazine typographical composing, line casting, and distributing machines ofthe Mergenthalertypecommercially known under the trade mark Linotype.
Quick changing means for machines of the type just defined are known in which the plurality of magazlnes is carried upon series having their axes in a plane parallel with that of the plurality, the magazine frame being provided with antifriction rollers engaging with the cams.
The present invention consists in the combination with such a series of cams, of a hand lever by which the cams on one and the same axis can be operated by the machine operator, links from those cams to the others of the series so as to operate them in unison, means by which the initial portion of the movement common to'all the cams shall disengage thel matrix escapement rods from the magazine to be quick changed and the magazine entrance common to the plurality from both the distributer and the entrance mouth of that magazine.
The accompanying figure is a side elevation of a preferred constructional form of the application of the invention to a machine of the'type above mentioned.
1 is the fixed distributer, and 2 the magazine entrance pivoted at 3 to the machine frame (not shown). The plurality shown comprises only two magazines 7 and 8 carried in the usual way on a magazine frame 4, which is arranged in the machine frame so as to be raised and loweredby a series of cams, of which only two, and 6, are shown. As there are only two, a single rise on a cam sufiices. It is obvious there must be an additional rise on each cam for each additional magazine.

14,14 are the usual escapements and 15 one of the row of escapement rods embraced by a yoke 16 movable horizontally to and fro to put the noses of the said rods out of working connection wlth the escapements of the magazine to be changed and into working connection with those of thesubstituted magazine.
17 is a rearwardly extended frame carrying the yoke 16 and adapted to move it as stated, by the engagement of an eye 18 at each end on a suitably supported horizontal rod 19. The frame 17 is moved by the front cams 5 which are duplex inasmuch as each has a special rise 20for this purpose. As soon as the lever 10 is started, a rise 20 rocks the top end of a lever 21' fulcrumed on a 'stationaryfnlcrum 22 and in constant engagementwith that rise, to the rear, there by makin the bottom arm of the lever 21 push the rame 17 to the front, thereby disengaging the rods 15 from the escapements of the magazine to be changed. This disengagement is accompanied by the rocking back of the magazine entrance 2 on its pivot 3, which rocking back is effected by an arm 23 fast on the fulcrum 22, a second arm 24 fast on'the pivot 3 and a link 25 connecting their outer ends. 26 is an adjustable connection between the frame 17 and the bottom end of the lever 21.
