CARDJ-IOLDER FOR CIGAR-BOXES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 11915.
Application filed April 24, 1914. Serial No. 834,533.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Ivan RnENs'rInnNA, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cardd-lolders for Cigar-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ticket holders for boxes, and has for its object the production of a device particularly adapted for use in connection with cigar boxes or si1nilar boxes where one wall thereof extends slightly above the upper edge of a wall perpendicular thereto.
The invention consists primarily in a plate provided with a prong extending outwardly from one edge and with another prong extending downwardly adjacent an edge perpendicular to the first mentioned edge, said plate having its upper surface provided with ticket retaining means.
The invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be fully understood by reference to the description of the drawings and to the claims hereinafter given.
Of the drawings: Figure 1 represents a plan of a cigar box with a ticket holder en1- bodying the principles of the present invention applied thereto. 2 represents a plan of the ticket holder removed from the box. Fig. 3 represents an inverted plan of the same. Fig. i represents a plan of a ticket to be used with said holder. Fig. 5 represents a right end elevation of the holder, drawn to an enlarged scale. Fig. 6'
represents an enlarged sectional detail, the cutting plane being on line 66 on Fig. 2, and Fig. 7 represents an enlarged sectional detail, the cutting plane being on line 7-7 on Fig. 3.
Similar characters designate like parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
1n the drawings, 10 is a cigar box, the right end wall 11 of which extends slightly above the front wall 12 thereof, as is usual in boxes of this class. The walls 11-42 are perpendicular to each other as indicated in Fig. 1. The ticket holder consists of the plate 13 having extending outwardly from one edge 14: thereof one or more prongs 15 each of which is stiffened by the depressed rib 16. The ribs 16 communicate with the stiffening rib 17 extending parallel with the edge 14:. The front edge 18 of the plate 13 is provided with an inturned lip 19, while the diagonal edge 20 is provided with a similar inturned lip 21. The lips 19 and 21 are below the upper edge of the wall 11 so that when a ticket 22 is placed on the plate 13 with two of its edges 232 l beneath said lips 19-21, its edge 25 will register with the inner face of the wall 11, thereby preventing the displacement of the ticket when the holder is applied to the box 10.
Adjacent to the front edge 18 of the plate 13 is a prong 26 at right angles to the under face of said plate, said prong preferably being formed integral with said plate and extending parallel with said front edge 18. The prongs 15 and 26 are pointed so that they may be readily forced into the material from which the box is made.
While the holder is shown triangular in shape in the drawings, it is obvious that it may be made of any desired shape without departing from the invention.
The operation of the device is as follows: i
The ticket 22 is positioned upon the plate 13 with its edges 23.-24t inserted beneath the inturned lips 1921, and then the prongs 15 are forced into the inner face of the wall 11 until the edge 14: of the plate 13 abuts said inner face, and then the prong 26 is forced into the upper edge of the front wall 12 of the box 10. The holder will thus be locked in position without showing any means for accomplishing this result. The inturned lips form an ornamental frame for the ticket 22.
The many advantages of a device of the character described it is believed are fully apparent without further description.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A ticket holder for boxes consisting of a plate having projecting prongs adapted to 1 be forced into two walls of a box and provided with ticket retaining means, one of said prongs extending outwardly from one edge of said plate and in the same plane therewith and the other prong extending downwardly adjacent another edge of said plate and perpendicular thereto.
2. A ticket holder for boxes consisting of a plate having two edges at right angles one of which edges is provided with an outwardly extending prong in the same plane with said plate, a downwardly extending prong adjacent to and parallel with the other edge and perpendicular to said plate, 2nd means for retaining a ticket on its upper ace.
3. A ticket holder for boxes consisting of a triangular plate having two edges perpendicular to each other and provided with inturned ticket retaining lips along one of said perpendicular edges and its inclined edge and provided with a downwardly extending prong adjacent one of said perpendicular edges and a prong extending outwardly from the other perpendicular edge.
4:- A ticket holder for boxes consisting of a triangular plate having two edges perpendicular to each other and provided with inturned ticket retaining lips along its forward edge and its inclined edge and provided with a downwardly extending prong adjacent one of said edges and a prong extending outwardly from the edge perpendicular to said edge, said plate having a stiffening shoulder parallel to said pronged edge.
