NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1915.
Application filed August 7, 1913. Serial No. 783,577.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MIOI-IAL MoRAwIEoKi, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and resident of Pittsburgh, South Side, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to bottles and has special reference to such a class of bottles as is known as the non-refillable type wherein liquids can be poured from the bottle but cannot be poured into the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and efiicient form of nonrefillable bottle wherein the stopper is firmly secured in the neck of the same after the liquid has beenplaced therein, and when so secured the liquid may be poured out or removed at will but no fluid or liquid can afterward be poured into such bottle.
My invention consists, generally stated, in the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more specificallv set forth and described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
To enable others skilled in the art to Which my invention appertains to construct and use my improved non-refillable bottle I will describe the same more fully referring to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a side view of the bottle partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the neck of the same on the line 2-2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3-3, Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow A. Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view on the line 4-4, Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrow B. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the neck of the bottle showing the stopper therein and the cap removed.
Like symbols of reference herein indicate like parts in each of the figures of the drawing.
As illustrated in the drawing my improved non-refillable bottle a is made of the ordinary shape and contour but may be of any shape desired such as the flask form and is provided with the usual neck portion 6 which has a shoulder 0 within the same a short distance from the top of said neck as hereinafter explained. The neck portion 6 is provided with a cork 1 which has a hollow interior 2 for receiving a piece of tubing 3 and such tubing is formed preferably o aluminum or some other material which will not rust or be attacked by the ingredients in the bottle a.
At a point substantially near the top of the tubing 3 is a ring 4 which fits snugly within said tube and may be soldered or sweated thereto in order to prevent any lateral move ment of the same. The ring 4 is provided upon its upper face with a pair of small lugs 5 substantially close together so that a lug 6 on a gate valve 7 will fit between the same, while a pin 8 extends through the said lugs 5 and 6 in order to allow the said valve to freely swing by a hinge motion. The gate valve 7 is adapted to entirely cover the opening through the ring 4: and has its lower face covered with cork, rubber or any other suitable material 9 in order to prevent the passage of any fluid through the said ring when said valve is closed against the same.
At a point substantially near the bottom of the tube 3 is a small tube or ring 10 which fits snugly in the tube 3 and may be soldered or sweated thereto in order to prevent any lateral motion of the same. The ring is provided on its upper face with a pair of lugs 11 substantially close together in order to permit a lug 12 formed integrally with a gate valve 13 to fit between the same, while a pin 14: extends through the said lugs 11 and 12 in order to allow the said gate valve to freely swing by a hinge motion. The gate valve 13 is adapted to entirely cover the opening through the ring 10 and has its lower face covered with cork, rubber or any other suitable material 15 in order to prevent the passage of any fluid through the said ring when said gate valve is closed against the same. The hinge formed by the lugs 5 and 6 is located diametrically opposite the hinge formed by the lugs 11 and 12 so that when the bottle is laid on its side one or the other of the gate valves 7 or 13 will be closedagainst its respective ring 4: or 10 in order to prevent any fluid from entering the bottle a.
The neck I) of the bottle a is provided on the outside of the same with a cap 16 which will fit by its lower edge around a shoulder (Z on said bottle in order to prevent its removal while the upper wall 17 of the same will be provided with a tubular opening 18 having threads 19 thereon for receiving a screw cap 20 in order to close the same.
g In case it is desired to'use my improved appliance in connection with an old bottle it may be pressed into the neck I) of the same and cement or other like substance may be poured around the cork 1 so as to prevent it from being withdrawn from the bottle neck without breaking the same.
Itwill readily be seen that my improved non-refillable bottle can be emptied with ease by tilting the same inorder to open the gate valves 7 and 13 and this action will be increased by the action of the fluid or liquid tending to press openthe gate valves as it flows against the same. It will also be seen that my improved non-refillable bottle cannot be refilled by pouring water or other liquid into, the same while in an upright position as the gate valves 7 and 13 would both be closed and the pressure of any fluid poured into the neck 6' of the bottle a would also assist in keeping the said valves tightly closed. The bottle cannot be filled by holding it in a horizontal position on account of the gate valves being hinged at points diametrically opposite each other so that one at least of the same would be closed at all times even though the bottle were closed and in addition the action of the fluid in pressing against the same would close orhold closed both of such valves.
It will be evident that with my improved bottle the mechanism cannot be removed in order to refill the bottle without breaking the neck of the same and practical demonstrations and experience has shown that its use is highly satisfactory.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a non-refillable bottle, in combination, a bottle neck having an annular shoulder formed within and adjacent the top thereof, a resilient bushing snugly fitting in said neck and engaging upwardly against said shoulder, said bushing being free to move downwardly, a metallic bushing snugly fitting in said resilient bushing and having outwardly projecting lugs for engaging upwardly against said resilient bushing, a pair of superposed, upwardly opening, hinged valves fixedly mounted in said metallic' bushing, the hinges of said valves being diametrically opposed to each other, and a cap covering the top of said neck and protecting said valves.
