T0 all iti/2,0m it may concern Be it known that l, WILLIAM PACHECO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county oi' Cook, State of illinois, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Single-Delivery Match- Boxes; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in match. boxes and particularly to match boxes for delivering a single match at a time.

@ne object of the invention is to provide a match box :tor delivering a single match in which crowding of the matches on the delivering member is prevented so that only one match finally is delivered from the box.

Another object is to provide a match box which will present a single match in a position to be conveniently grasped.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

1n the drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the box showing the parts in normal position. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the upper portion of the boX showing the operation of the means for brushing oft1 all but the match that is to be delivered. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional detail showing the manner in which the brushing device is pushed out of the way of the match delivering member. Fig. 4c is a vertical transverse sectional view showing the manner in which the match is tilted to stand in a vertical position for convenient grasping thereof.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the stand in which is telescoped to slide vertically the match receptacle 11. r1`he bottom of the stand is provided with a suitable flange 12 adapted to rest on a table, counter or the like. 1Within the receptacle 11 is an inclined bottom 1s terminating adjacent the lower edge of the front wall of the receptacle so as to provide a transverse slot for the reception of the vertical stationary member 15. A horizontal wall 16 is disposed beneath the inclined bottom 14 and between this wall and the bottom wall of the stand is arranged a spring 17 which normally Specication of Letters Patent.

holds the receptacle 11 in elevated position. lThe member 15 is formed centrally with a vertical longitudinal slot 1S through which extendsa pin 19 carried by the lower end of the front wall of the receptacle 11. lllhe upper end of the receptacle carries a hinged lid 20, the forward edge of which abuts against the rear edge oi' a plate 21 secured across the upper end of the front wall of the receptacle. This plate 21 is 'formed with an elongated slot 22 extending approximately the entire width of the interior of the receptacle, this slot being the opening through which the matches are delivered, as will be more clearly set forth hereinafter. lt will be noted that the front wall ot the receptacle 11 slides between the front wall of the stand 10 and the member 15 thus guiding the member 15 vertically against the inner face of the front wall of the receptacle 11.

The upper end of the member 15 is formed with a groove 23 of such size and position as to comfortably hold a single match, and deep enough so that the match will not be jarred therefrom. 1n the upper portion of the front wall of the receptacle 11 is formed an opening 24;, and in this opening is disposed a block 25 mounted on a horizontal pivot 26. A leaf spring 27 carried by the receptacle above the opening 24; bears with its free end against the upper portion of the block and holds the same normally projected a slight distance into the receptacle. rlfhe upper edge of the block 25 is beveled as indicated at 28.

The member 15 has one of its upper corners cut away as indicated at 29 to receive a block 30 secured to the underside of' the plate 21. The mutually adjacent vertical faces of both the block 30 and the wall of the cut away portion 29 are vertically grooved as shown at 31 and 82.

The normal position of the parts is shown clearly in Fig. 1, and when it is desired to operate the device to deliver' a single match, the iingers of the hand are placed on the cover 20 and the receptacle 11 depressed. r1`here will be one match in the groove of the member 15 and by reason of the crowding of the other matches in the receptacle, two or three other matches will lie on top of this irst match. As the receptacle 11 moves downward the member 15 will ride up against the inner face of the front wall of the receptacle carrying the matches with it, but as the matches which are on top of Y the one in the groove engage against the block 25 theywill be pushed ofi' and caused to fall down into the mass of matches in the receptacle. Further movement of the receptacle brings the block into engagement f to swing upwardly through the slot 22 and stand in a vertical position. The end of the match within the receptacle Willbe disposed within the registered grooves 31' and 32. The match may then be readily removed,

and the receptacle permitted to rise under the influence of the spring 17.

Particular attention is called to the fact that .the block-25 is so positioned that the upperend of the member l15 will force it.

What is claimed-is: l

`1. A single delivery match box including a stand, a resiliently held receptacle telescopically disposed for depression into the g stand and provided with a delivery opening,

means carried by the standfor supporting amatch to a point of delivery, and means carried by the depressible receptacle adjacent the delivery opening for knocking oif superfluousmatches from the carrier, whereby only a single match will be carried to the point of delivery.

In a single delivery match box, a magazine, a delivering slide movable through the magazine, and means carried by the magazine and normally arranged in position to engage and brush oii the excess matches carried by the slide, and subsequently to be engaged and moved out of normal position by the slide.

3. In a single delivery match box, a magazine, a delivering slide movable through the magazine, and yieldably held means normally projecting into the path of the slide for brushing excess matches from the slide, said yieldable means being subsequently engaged and moved out of normal position by the slide.

4. In a single delivery match box, a magazine, a delivering slide movable through the magazine, and a resiliently held pivoted finger normally projecting into the path of "7 the slide for brushing excess matches from the slide, said linger being subsequently engaged and moved out of normal position by f the slide.
