ironing board cabinet of simple, durable and inexpensive construction in Which an ironing board may be supported and contained in such a manner as to be concealed .from view, and when it is desired to use the ironing` board it may be readily, quiclfzly and easily swung to a horizontal position and there firmly and securely held as required in use.
Another object of this invention is to provide an ironing board so constructed and proportioned that itbalances well and to mount this board upon connections with the cabinet, heretofore mentioned, in such a manner that only a very little exertion, such asa slight push upon the outer end, Will be necessary to cause the board to assume its inoperative position Within the cabinet and to accom lish this selfbalancing feature Without the aid of springs, weights or the like.
A still further object of thisinvention is the provision of an ironing board of this nature which can be manufactured at a minimum cost, one which will alford sufficient strength, stability and durability for all purposes to which it will be ordinarilyfsubJected and one which will be convenientx in use and which when not in use may be folded in its cabinet .thus economizing much space.
Among the many other objects of this invention the provisionoQsupporting devices for the ironing board Which may be readily, quickly, 'and easily adjusted vertically so that the ironing board will be supported in a horizontal osition at various elevations to suit the desire of the one using the board and to rovide a novel. and convenientmanner ofpstretchingthe cloth and olding the same upon the ironing b'oard With the foregoing and Aother ob'ects'in view, 4this invention Vconsistent suc" novel .features of construction, combinati n and arrangement of parts as will be here after more fully described, illustrated in the acvComp"myfl drawings and claimed.
ln 'describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanyingdrawings wherein like characters o designate like or corresponding arts throughout the several views, and) in which:- 1
Figure 1 is a sectional view through the cabinet showing the ironing board and the reference supprting means therefor in elevation and showing the ironing board in a horizontal or operative position. Fig. 2 is a top planv view of the ironing board showing the cab'inet in section. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional vieiv through the cabinet showing the ironing board folded therein and the door of the cabinet closed. Fig. 4 is a detail View ,showing the manner of mounting the vbracing means in the cabinet. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the bracket which is secured to the under side of the ironing board and to which the bracing means is attached. Fig. 6 is a detail fragmentary view of the outer end of the ironing board showing the means for securing a cloth thereon, and Fig. 7 is a detail plan View of the under side of the outer end of the ironing board showing parts in section and also showing the Inanner of attaching a cloth to the board.
In referring to the drawings by numeral,
-1 designates a cabinet which may be of any ordinary construction and has `a door 2 hingedly connected thereto. In Fig. 1 of the drawings the cabinet 1 is shown seated in a recess of the Wall of a room but it is to be understood that this cabinet is so constructed that it may be placed either in a recess in the room or in any desired position in or about the room. Mounted Within the cabinet and secured to each side thereof is a metallic plate 3 which is provided with an elongated slot a. Projecting laterally from the upper end of the slot 4 is a series of soA q is
smaller slots 5. lllie lower enel of the plate 3 is provifle. with c series ci openings 6 which lieve the reduced angled ends 7 of che bracing member 8 mounted in a pair oi them. The bracing member 8 is Yformed ci a single piece of stout nieta-l wire and is beni substantially Uslmped han/ing the connected enii normally mounted in lthe brackets 9 which are secured to the under surface of the ironing board l0 es is clearly shown in Figs. l :ind 2 of the drawings. 'Elie ends 7 of the bracing member 8 cre beni outwardly and reduced as is clearly shown in Fig. e to en able them to be eesilyinsercer'i into lille openings 6 of the plebe 3. The inner en@ 1l of elle ironing board 1.0 lies e rofl 12 ,mounted therein, ne ends 13 of which projeclJ e short distance beg/ond the sides of the ironing boord l0 andere seated. in s pair of the lai;- ersl slots 5 oifhlie plates 3. The series of 'rensverse slcis and. `lie series or' openings 6- iblie plates 3 form a. ineens 'lor vertically eiusting the ironing; boer 1U ivo suis the Aeormenience of Jolie person using the saine.
The bracket 9 has projeoing downwardly from one side thereof en extension l5 which. is prcviderl'wth si lateral slot 16. Slot i6 lass its inner Well curvecl to form e bearing ior the coiiriececl eno. or che lil-slispeii bren ing mene` 8 and; is vopen et one. end or' the bracket so clim; the member 8 may loe easily mounted therein. The slot'. l5 further ecilil tetes the folding of the ironing boercl into the cabinet, in thc-l; ir. allows limited iree-- movement of the il-sl1epecl crece f5, thus preventing loining between che saine and ilie bracket 9 during the pivotolmoveinent ci the ironing looercl. `lWhen e. slight push is eclniinisserecl ilo ille end 17 of the ironing boord l0 che ends i3 of the ro; lil will be pushed out or transverse recesses 5 and into the -vcrticel recesses l of the pistes 3 and will pass downwardly iiiierein thus allowing the ironing board lo assume the posi4- tion that; is shown in Fig. 3 of alieirewinggs when it will be folded in tlie cebirlct l and ont of the wmf.
The ironing boord l0 is provided. with s projection 20 which is formeel upoii sie un der surface thereof and `whicl'i While being .of somewhat the saine sli-ape 'che main body portion of the ironing boord is slightly,T smaller und has e groove 2li extending the entire distance tlierearounrl. Placed over che ironing Vboard l() is a clotii 22. This cloth 22 is folded under snel about the projection QU :is is clearly shown in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings and is lielcl securely in. place by means oi the wire 23 which is seated. in the recess and which has its ends,
connected to limnb screw "which is mounted in tlie ironing board 10.
By urning the thumb screw 24 the wire 23 is either tightened or loosened abouE the Vpiiirslity of openings formed inieairl pief'e projection 20 and either securely holds i" vone Working in the room which. is
placed.
"in practical i'ields, certain minor femmes or construction and arrangement of parte may require :ilrerctions to which che .N
