Be it known t at 1, l[eNA;cE PArniAN, a citizen of the United States,of Amer1ca,'residing at Pittsburgh, 1n the county of Alle- 'gheny and State of Pennsylvania, have inis simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient and convenient in its use, readily set up and inexpensive ,to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel con struction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

1n the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is an elevation of a toy pistol in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the pistol, the latter being in position to fire a projectile, such as a Whirligig, Fig. 3 is a detail in transverse section, and Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the projector.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 4 denotes a handle provided at its upper end with a forwardly projecting support 5 and pivotally mounted as at 6,v in the upper end of said handle 4 as well as extending into the support 5 is a trigger 7 provided with a nose 8.

Slidably mounted in the support 5 is a spring controlled projector 9, which consists of an elongated hollow longitudinally extending member provided with longitudinal slots 10, and further provided at its rear end' with a finger piece 11. Extending into the projector 9 from the forward end thereof, is a spiral rod 12, which has its rear end flattened as at 13, the said rear end 13 is fixedly secured by the transverse rivet 14: of the v support 5. Arranged within the member 9, and interposed between the forward end 15 of said member and the rivet 14, is a coiled spring ing 17, adapted to have the nose 8 of the a trigger 7 extend therein, whereby the spring 16 will be held under a state of compression. When the trigger 7 is shifted from the opening 17, the expanding of the spring 16 .will force the projector 9 forwardly and shift any body mounted upon the rod 12.

As illustrated, a bladed member is mounted upon the rod 12, and the said member consists of a body portion 17, which is loosely mounted upon the rod 12, and pro ecting from said body portion is a pair of blades or vanes 18. When the trigger 7 releases the member 9, the latter will force the bladed member from off the rod 12, and

owing to the fact that the rod 12 is of spiral formation, it is obvious that the bladed member will be caused to revolve as it is forced from the rod 12 through the medium of the member 9, and said bladed member will then as it travels through the air whirl.

What I claim is 1. A toy pistol comprising a handle, a support projecting forwardly from the upper end thereof, a spring controlled longitudinally extending projector mounted in said support, a rod extending into said projector and fixed to said support, said rod having a portion thereof in the form of a spiral, a

rod extending into SELQ PIOJGCtOI and fixedly secured to said support, a coiled spring arranged in said projector and capable of being placed under a state of compression when said projector is shifted, said projector having means for the reception of said trigger to maintain said spring under a state of spring arranged in the projector and interposed between said means in the inner end 15 of the projector and capable of being compressed when the projector is shifted rearwardly, a Whirligig mounted upon said rod forwardly of sald projector, and a trigger engaglng in said projector for maintaining said spring under a state of compression 20 and adapted when released from the projector to allow action of said spring to shift the projector forwardly whereby sald whirligig 1s projected from said rod.
