WINDOW AND CASEMENT.
Toall' whom it may concern Be it known that I,
V CRITTALL, a subject of the King of Great up and down in metal jambs. The body of the jamb consists of a flat metal plate which is preferably the head of a T the stem of which is let into the wall. Along the outer edge of the plate there is a flange pro]ect1ng at right angles from it. This flange may be conveniently formed'of an angle iron riveted to the plate. A strip of bronze or the like is preferably fixed to the inner faceof the flange. Near the middle of the plate is fixed a grooved bar, on the inner side of which is preferably fixed a strip of bronze or the like. A second grooved bar is fixed at the inner edge of the plate. Each sliding frame consists of a double flanged or trough shaped bar and the outer faces of the outer flanges of these bars preferably have fixed to them strips of bronze or the like. The strip on the outer flange of the upper frame slides in contact withthe strip on the inner face of the flange of the jamb plate, while the inner flange of the upper frame runs in the groove of the central grooved bar. The strip on the outer flange of the lower frame slides in contact with the strip on the inner side of the central grooved bar, while the inner flange of the lower frame runs in the groove of the inner grooved bar. Each frame is provided with rollers (preferably four) which are pivoted between their flanges and bear againstthe outer faces of the two grooved bars.
The invention is applicable to the casements described in the specification N 0. 1,002,228 the outer frames of such casements being made to slide up and down in the jambs as above described. The draw ings show such an'arrangement.
Figure 1 is an outside front elevation and Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2- 2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is two local horizontal sections, the front part being on theline 3-3,
. Fig. 1, and the rear part on the line 3"3",
Fig. 1. Figs. 4:, 5 and 6 show details.
a a are vertical T irons let into the side VALENTINE GEORGE- fipecification ofLetters IPatent. i Patented Mar, 1 915,- Application filed June 11, 1914. Serial a... 844,568.
- Walls Oneof these walls is shown in Fi 3 but for the sake of 'clearness they are omitj ted in Figs. land 2. 7.
a a are angle irons secured to the T irons by rivets a l a a are strips of bronze fixed to the angle irons a 0 care the outer bars of the upper sash of easements constructed according to the former specification, and d d are the bars a. Only vertical bars 0 areemployed, there I being no corresponding bars at the top andbottom.
0 c are bronze strips fixed to the bars 0' and sliding in contact with the strips 00 f f are rollersmounted on studs f fixed to plates 7 which are secured to the webs ofthe bars a by rivets f as shown at Figs.
a v gg are angle irons onfwhich the rollers run. These angle irons have slots 9 (Figs.
3 and 6.
4: and 5) in them and they are secured by:
clamping strips h andscrews k whichscrew into holesin the T irons a. This construction allows of accurate adjustment inlthe fixing of the angle irons 9 so that when the casement is erected the strips '0 can be firmly but not too tightly pressed against the strips a i k are bronze strips fixed to the clamping strips in. a
The lower sash is adjustably .secured in place in an exactly similar manner.
j j are the outer vertical bars and 70 k are the bars of the inner frame pivoted at Z Z to them. I
9' y' are bronze strips fixed to the bars" 9'. They are in contact with the strips k and their rollers m run upon angle irons n which are exactly similar to the angle irons g and are as before adjustably'secured in place by clamping strips 0 and screws 0 The upper and lower sashes balance one another the'tops of the bars 0 and 7' being connected together by chains (not shown) which. pass over pulleys p.
' g g are plates fixed to the lower bar d'and upper bar is to make a tight jointfbetween the upper and lower sashes.
them by bolts (not shown).
escape.
of the inner frame pivoted ate 6 tothe bars a" is a cast iron cill situated between the lower'ends of the T irons-a and securedto What I claim is The combination of a jamb, an outer flange fixed to the jamb, an angle piece forming an inner flange and having slots in it, a clamping strip, screws passing through the slots and securing the clamping strip to the jarnb whereby said angle piece is made adjustable, a Vertical sash bar the g outer face of which is in direct contact at all times With the outer flange, and rollers piv- 10 oted to the sash bar and in direct contact With the inner flange.
