To all whom z'trmzy concern: .ne it kmwnthat i,
HEIN, Va subject: of the. King of' Denmark,
r residing at Renders, Denmark, have in- -a'ords a considerably more advantageous thermal utilization of the fuel over` the methods hitherto known :it a very great simplicity of the design of thelengine. The acceptance of this method renders the use of many parts dispensable, vwhich were'hitherto considered as drawbacks in engnes'of a' similar kind; as for' instanctiie compressor the igiition cap of the Brons engine the glowhead 'with heating lampand the cle-- or the dripping cooling water in the vglowhead engine, the carburetor devices for 'l 'd fuels in carbureter engines and theliA c. Notwithstanding the simplicity of the mechanism required for its perfomance, the noi-el method allows of the use of easily or not'eas'ily volatile fuels, and owing to the high ratio the compression of a good thermal 'utilization of fuel, whether'the enginesloe constructed on the four-cycle, the two-cycle.
system or in any other manner.
My invention will he more clear by referring to the accompanying drawing which forms part ot' this speciication and in which the neva7 method is exemplied, Figures l ,to 6 being diagrams showing the several positions of the iston with the piston gear and Fig. 7 being a diagram ofthe pres.

gines by the suction stroke or with two-'cycle engines as scavenging air); the, thus introduced portion of the uei charge will form with the air in the engine cylinder a purely mechanically produced mixture of fuel and air. It is not necessary that this mixture is infiammable, particularly when a not readily volatile fuel is used. As Witlrtlie progress of the compression also the heat of the compression `will increase, the hitherto only mechanically.4 didusedparticles of fuel will he evaporated and form with the air a mixture vof fuel vapor and air, which at a given ratio of the mixture Will become inflammable at a higher compression. order to prevent a premature ignition of this mixture, when the compression heat rises ,Still further, one or several further for the injection air of the Diesel engine *L portions of nh# mechanically diffused fuel are introduce'dldui'ing the'further compression period into the already existing miicture of .fuel and air. .This renewed intro,
duction of fuel, the saine as the previous one, has first of all' the object to absorb the heat of theniixture of fuel and airby its evaporatipmnnd besides -to enrich the mixture to thetavorahle ratio. By suitably arranging the. quantity injected, the moment of the injection andthe proce of the injection the moment of the ignition (in consequence `ot the compression heat.)u can he controlled at will in the neighborhood of the upper dead center.l Without such rees y,
nevfcd introduction of lfuel the vmoment of the ignition could not he accurately deter- ,f
mined, and this would cause the engine ,to
necessary to employ a lower ratio of the compression in order to avoid premature "sa knock in running. Besides it would bef' ignitions, so that a less favorable utilization of the fuel would. result. Lastly the ignition of such a mixture of fuel and air would be a sudden one and result in a corresponding pointed diagram. `As, now, the'subsequently yintrodi'iced fuel has not as much time, at disposaly to evaporate as lthe portion which was first introduced, before the ignition occurs, there will he a combustion going iai on even afterfthe ignition, and this will 4,
lresult in the diagram being fuller instead of pointed; on the other hand/this, will insure a more'silent running of the eioginhigf `'lfhe above mentioned continuous introductions may also be replaced by individual,
trod'uc'ing'a quantity of easilyvolaftile fuel required for eehu-rge, without air, iniuv-mclninicelly diffused 'forni into the air contained in the engine eylindr, compressing the said fuel and causing ittd, mix with the said air and to evaporate A:ind thereupon and before the completion of compression stroke introducing the predetermined additional quantity of mechanically diffused fuel without nir in several stages into the existing mixture for enriching the same and postponing the moment of self ignition.
Ll. A method of operzitinr combustion engines with liquid fuel, which is ignited by the compression lien-t, consisting in. first introducing :i quantity of easily volatile fuel required for a charge without air, in it ineehanicully diffused form into the air contained in the engine cylinder, compressing the said fuel and causing it to miX with the said nir and to evaporate and thereupon and before the completion of compression stroke introducing :i predetermined additional quantity ot' fuel in several stages into the/ existing mixture for enriching` the sume andV postponing the moment of selfignition, the last portion of the fuel being injected at the commencement of the working stroke.
5. A method of operating combustion engines with liquid fuel, which is ignited by the compression heat, consisting in first introdueing :i quantity of easily volatile fuel required for e charge, Without air, in a Inechemically diffused form into the :tir con-A tained in the engine cylinder, compressing the said fuel and causing it to IniiX with the seid nir und to evaporate, and thereupon :ind before the completion ot" coinlgiression stroke introducing ai predetermined. additional quantity of less easily volatile fuel of different kind into the existing mixture for enricliingthe same and postponing the moment of self ignition.
