Description

y naar saftinaar naar' CHARLES L. W. BAKER, OE HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO C. L. W. BAKER & COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
Leners Patent No. 113,244, dated Aprn 91, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRUSH, BROOM, AND MOP-HCLDERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Description of the'Acconqiany/ng Drawing. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved brushholder; and
'Figure l2, a sectional view.
v General Description.
To the lower end of a handle, A, is secured a metal ferrnle or sleeve, B, ou the outside of which is a coarse screw-thread, a, adapted to the internal thread of a screw-ring, C, having on each side anear, c, to which is linked the'one end of a U-shapedwire clamp'or yoke, D.
To the lower end of the handle 1s loosely secured, by means of a screw, B, or otherwise, a Tshaped block, J, the arms d l of whichl are slotted for the passage of the arms'of the yoke D, while the stem is bent at an angle to the said arms and has at its end a projection, e, the whole forming a claw, L, which grasps the top and one edge of the brush X, while the opposite edge is grasped hy the bent portion oi the yoke D.
By turning the handle A in one direction `the ring C may be carried upward so as to draw back the yoke D and clasp the brush more firmly, while the reverse rotation of the handle will carry the ring downward,
remove the bent end ofthe yoke from the edge ot the brush, and release the latter, either operation being performed while the brush lies upon the door, and Without the necessity of the operator stooping or handling the brush or any part of the clamping device.
It will be seen that by means of this device brushes of diierent widths may be connected tothe handle with equal readiness and security;y thatthe agitation of the brush orthe repeated. striking oi' the same against the wall or other object will not cause the loosening of the clamps; and that the whole is simple in construction and may be cheaply manufactured. .i
lt is not absolutely necessary to employ a screw for operating and securing the ring C. A rack, for instance, may be formed on the sleeve B, (or on a plate securedto the handle,) the ring C having an internal lip, which will catch on the teeth of the rack and ren tain the ring in any position to which it is adjusted. In this case, also, the block J may be stationary and permanently secured to the sleeve or directly to the handle.
C la'im.
A brush-holder, consisting of a claw, L, and slotted arms d el, connected to the handle or to the socket, for receiving the handle, and a yoke or clamp, D, the arms of which extend through the slotted arms d d and are connected to a ring, C, adjustable on the handle or socket, as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witmesses.
C. L. IV. BAKER. Witnesses:
E. Knienr SPERRY, GEORGE ULRICH.
