APPLICATION FILED JUN;y 8, 1914.

WEA/70H; JzzZzzzJ Mme JULIUSBUMPEL, OF WESTON, MISSOURI.
Specification of Letters Patent.
RECEPTAG'LE.
Patented Mar. 9, 1.915. l
Application led June 8, 1914. Serial No. 843,696.
To all whoml t may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs RUMPEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Weston, in the county of Platte and State of'Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Receptacles, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lunch receptacles, and my object is to provide a simple device of this character,
. wherein lunches and cold drinks may be con* veniently packed for picnic parties, etc.
The receptacle has an ice compartment and is made of 'air and waterproof material,
so that when providedwith ice and refresh-y ments the same will be keptcold and fresh for a considerable period of time.
The device is made of inexpensive material, so that it may be thrown away afteruse if desired.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, referencewill now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which z Figure 1 is a perspective of the receptacle open ready for filling. Fig. 2 is a'perspective of the receptacle closed. Fig. 3 is a sec.
tion on line III-III of Fig. 42'.
In carrying out the invention, I employ a box l, made, preferably, of pasteboard or I other stiff material.
2 designates an extensible top for the box 1, said top being made, preferably, of paper which can be readily folded into closed position as disclosed by Figs..2 and 3, for the purpose of excluding air from the receptacle and contents thereof. One margin of the top 2 has a flexible metallic clip 3, suitably secured thereto to secure the top in closed position.
4 designates a perforate ice compartment arranged within box 1.' .'Perforations 5 in said compartment are located some little distance above the bottom thereof, so that water accumulating from the melting ice will not overiiow into the balance of `thebox 1.l
The box 1 and its topA 2 are, preferably,
treated with waterproofing material, so that no damage will ensue should the water from the melting ice come into contact with said box 1 and its top 2. However, when food likely to be spoiled by water from the melting ice is packed 'in the box' l, I providea cap 6 to fit snuglyover Vthe walls of the compartment 4, to retain the water in the latter. l 55 The bottom of the b'ox 1is reinforced by Y a strip of stil material 7 extending across said bottom'and secured to the box by a fabric bail 8, pasted or otherwise secured to said strip 7 and two sides of theA box 1.
In practice, ice is placed in the compartment 4, while ediblesand bottles eontaming liquid refreshments may be packed around and overl said compartment, the whole be-v ing rmly secured in place by bringing the oppositev sides of the top. 2 together, and then rotating the clip 3 downwardly to wind the two sides of thetop thereon, after which the projecting ends of the clamps are folded toward each other, as disclosed by Fig. 2, to prevent the top from unwinding or unfolding. I x
By making the top 2 of flexible' material extending some distance above the top of the box 1, the capacityof the receptacle may be enlarged 'orv diminished according to the number of times said top is folded around A the clip 3. y i K While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, vI of course, reserve the right to make such changes in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is:
A box, a compartmentof waterproof material mounted upon thebottom ofthe box and having a series of spacedrows of per-` forationsformed therein, the lowermost row of perforations being spaced above the bot- .tom lof the compartment, and a cap detachy J ULIUS RUMPEL. Witnesses: l'
