It will also'be noted that 90s which carries the stationary or fixed jaw under no'circumstances can the axesof' the plate 3. The main frame 1 is provided with toggles through their bearings and the fulan upper and a lower bearing 4 and 5, the crumof the arm 16 come into a straight line. I

The swinging lecrusher when an object of high resi stan ce ver also carries a jaw plate 3' which isfalls between the jaw plates 3' and 3';
From the fore oing description, taken in. connection with t 1e accompanying drawing, theadvantage of the construction and. operation of the device shown will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention pertains; and while'I have described the principle of'operation, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 4
' 1. In a crusher,a frame; a jaw carried by the frame; a lever mounted to oscillate in the frame; a jaw carried by the lever; a crank shaft in the frame; a pitman on the crank; a toggle intermediate the pitman and the lever; a second toggle on the other side of the pitman associated with the frame; and means positioned between the said second toggle and the pitman adapted to maintain said lever immovable, while the pitman moves, when an object of high resistance enters between the crushing jaws.
2. In a crusher,frame; a jaw carried by the frame; a lever mounted to oscillate in the frame; a jaw. carried by the lover; a crank shaft in the frame; a pitman on the crank; a toggle intermediate the pitman and the lever; a second toggle on the other side of the pitman associted with the frame; means between the pitman and said last mentioned toggle including resilient members whereby said lever is adapted to remain immovable, while the pitman moves, when an object of high resistance enters between the crushing jaws.
. 3. In a crusher,a frame; a crushing jaw in the frame; a lever mounted to oscillate in' the frame; a jaw in the lever; a pitman in the frame; means for actuating the pit man; a toggle between the pitman and the lever;,a' second toggle on the opposite side of the pitman associated with the frame; an
arm mounted to oscillate on the pitman engaging said second toggle; and resilient means normally preventing the oscillation of said arm .on the pitman, the resistance of said resilient means being such as to permit the lever to remain immovable, while the pit man moves, when an object of high resistance enters between the jaws.
4. In a crusher,a frame; a jaw in said frame; a lever mounted to oscillate in the frame; a jaw carried by the lever; means for oscillating the lever; and means associated with said means for oscillating the lever, positioned exteriorly of said lever, whereby the said lever remains immovable during the movement of said means for oscillating the lever when an object of high resistanceienaters between the jaws.
5. In a crusher,a frame; a jaw in said,
'frame; a lever mounted to oscillate in the 6. In a crush'er,a frame; a crushing jaw in said frame; a lever mounted to oscillate in the frame; a crushing jaw carried by the lever; a pitman for oscillating the lever; an arm pivotally associated with the pitman; and a spring normally preventing thepivotal movement of said arm on the pitman, the resistance of said spring being such that said arm will only move whenan object of;
high resistance is engaged between the crushing jaws.
7. In a crusher, a frame, a crushing jaw in said frame, awlever mounted to oscillate in the frame, a crushing jaw carried by the lever, a pitman for oscillating the lever,-an
arm pivotally associated with the pitman, said pivot of the arm being located below the point of oscillation of the pitman, and
springs normally preventing the pivotalmovement of said arm on the pitman, said springs being located above the point of oscillation of the pitman, the resistance of said spring being such that said arm will only move on its pivot when an objectof predetermined resistance is engaged'between the crushing jaws.
8. In a crusher, a frame, a jaw carried by i the frame, a lever mounted to oscillate in the frame, a jaw carried by the lever, a crank. shaft in the frame, a pitman on the crank, a
toggle intermediate the pitman and the lever, a second toggle on the other 'side of the pitman associated with the frame, an arm positioned between said second toggle and the pitman and pivotally associated with the pitman, the axis of said pivot being below said crank but above said toggles, and resilient means connecting said arm and the pitman whereby the lever remains immovable while the pitman moves when an object of high resistance enters between the crushingjaws. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in thepresence oi two subscribing witnesses.
