AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Application filed March 4, 1914. Serial No. 822,334.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PHILIP S. GREENE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at WVilkes-Barre in the county of Luzerne and State of lennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to amusement devices and more particularly to that form of amusement device intended to test the skill of the operator in maintaining his equilibrium.
The objects of the invention are to provide a device of this character of simple construction; presenting suiiicient dilficulty in operation and which is so constructed as to afford little danger of injury to the one attempting the feat.
With these and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, my invention consists in the novel arrangement and construction of parts set forth in the following description, more particularly pointed out in the claims and which are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Referring to said drawings by numerals z-Two suitable supports are provided of any convenient form and material, but as here shown they consist of X shaped supports formed of suitable pieces of timber 1, joined together by means of a bolt 2. To the lower ends of said pieces 1 are fastened, by screws or otherwise, the metal hinges 3 adapted to be screwed or otherwise fastened to the floor by means of screws t.
Mounted in the crotches formed by said X shaped supports is a cylindrical rod or bar 5 (a piece of metal pipe may be conveniently used for this purpose) having fastened, in any convenient manner, at either end thereof a ring 6.
A cable 7 is linked or otherwise suitably fastened to one of said rings 6, said cable carrying on its free end a hook 8 adapted to engage the eye screw 9 fastened in the floor.
The ring 6, at the opposite end of the aforesaid pipe 5 has suitably fastened thereto a block 10, the tackle 11 of which also carries a block 12 provided with a hook 13 for the purpose of engaging the eye of a second eye screw 9 fastened in the floor. The object of said block and tackle being to permit of a proper adjustment of the tension on the device so as to render the same firm and steady. Mounted on the rod 5, between said supports, is a cask or barrel 14:, the heads of which are centrally bored, and provided with suitable bushings 15, for the reception of said rod 5. Said cask or barrel being adapted to form a seat for a purpose hereinafter set forth. To one of said supports is suitably fastened, by means of the eye screw 16 or otherwise, a rope or cord 17 and to the same support is also secured, in any convenient manner, the bent rod or arm 18, from which may be suspended a suitable prize or other object.
Beneath the device may be placed a suitable padded mat 19, for the purpose of rendering thesame more safe and less likely to injure the operator.
The operation of the device is as follows: The cask or barrel 14, being in the position shown in Fig. 1, is mounted or straddled by the one attempting the feat, whose object is then to maintain his upright position thereon while drawing himself and the cask 14: along the rod 5 by pulling upon the cord or rope 17 Should he accomplish this he may take the prize hung from the arm 18.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z 1. In a device of the character described, suitable supports, a rod carried by said supports, and a revoluble seat slidably mounted on said rod.
2. In a device of the character described, suitable supports, a rod carried by said supports, a seat revolubly mounted on said rod, and means for pulling said seat along said rod.
3. In a device of the character described, suitable supports, a rod carried by said supports, a cylindrical seat revolubly mounted on said rod between said supports, and means for pulling said seat along said rod.
Patented Mar. 9, 1915.
