Description
RICHARD M. Morne, or NRW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 113,080, dated March 28, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN CATARRHAL DOUCHES.l
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom'tt may concern.- i
Be it knowuthat I, RICHARD M. MOYLE, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Oatarrhal Douche; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and and use the same, reference being had to accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The figure is a perspective view of my improved inhaler, illustrating its use.
My invention relates to catarrhal douches, and consists in a new way of constructing the outlet-.pipe thereof, as hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.
A represents the bottle to contain the liquid preparation, and which may be an ordinary bottle ot' convenient size, or a bottle made expressly for this use.-
B is a tube which. is bent twice at right angles, or nearly at right angles.
' One end of the tube Bl is inserted in the cork or stopper() of the bottle. The other end of the tube B has a tapering bulb formed upon it to lit into and close the orifice of the nose into which the liquid is to be introduced.
D is an air-tube passing through the cork or stopper C, and extending to, or nearly to, the bottom of the bott-1e A.
The outer end of the tube D projects a little beyond the cork C.
In-using the inhaler the thumb of one hand is placed over the cnd of the tube D to close it, while the lingers clasp the neck of the bottle to steady it. The bottle is then inverted, and its bottom is steadied by the other hand. The bulb ofthe tube B is then inserted in the 'orifice of the nose, and the thumb is then removed from the end of the tube D, allowing the air to enter the bottle through the tube D, forcing the liquid through the tube B into -the nose. The passage of the liquid through the. tube B` should beA slightly assisted by lightly snufiing at the same time that the thumb is removed from the end of the tube D, until the liquid reaches the throat. f
A single experience will instruct the patient how to co'ntrol the emission of the liquid by regulating the admission of air through the tube D.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an article of manufacture, a Sprit-bottle, with an outlet-pipe having an extra `upward turn to adapt it for insertion into the nose.
The aboveV specification of my invention signed by me this 10th day of January, 1871.
RICHARD M. MOYLE.
