METAL BACKING FOR TEETH.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GUs'rAv E.. FRITZ, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metal Backings for Teeth,
of which the following is a specification.-
This invention has reference to an improvement in metal-backings for poreelain the porcelain, and known as pin teeth.
That the invention may be more fully understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification, in which I Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a porcelain pin facin'g,also showing my improved metal tube or cylinder for the pin or pins, and the backings, the same being in detached relation; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the facing, showing the metal tubes or cylinders on the pins, and the backing burnished in position on the facing, and Fig. 3 is'a view similar to Fig. 1, with the parts assembled and soldered.
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the figures.
'1 denotes a porcelain facing having the pins 2 baked therein, the same having been ground at the incisal edge, as at 3 so as to have a protecting tip of metal, when the backing has been attached.
4 designate metal tubes or cylinders, closed at one end, as at 5, and with annular flanges 6 formed at their open ends. These tubes or cylinders are adapted to cover the pins 2, with their flanges bearing against the posterior of the facing.
7 denotes a backing preferably of pliable or flexible metal, having a holeor holes 8 therethrough, corresponding to the number of pins on the facing and only large enough i to allow the tubes or cylinders to pass therethrough, when the backing is applied to the facing.
Specification of Letters Patent.
pins baked in Patented Feb. 23, 1915.
Application filed July 20, 1914. Serial No. 851,953.
In making up a case, the facing is preferably beveled, as at 3; the tube or tubes i then fitted over the pin or pins 2, with the flanges 6 bearing against the posterior face of the facing and the "backing 7 passed over the tubes 4 and burmshed' over and against the flanges 6, so as to rest thereagainst, and also against the posterior face of the facing with a portion burnished over the ground incisal edge 3, as at 9, so as to give a protecting tip to the incisal edge. Sticky wax is applied to' the backing 7 and tubes 4' so, that they will be held in correct relation while the facing is removed. After removal, the backing and tubes are invested in an investment material, heat applied, and Solder 10 made to flow over the backing and tubes. The facing may then be cemented to the backing. The flanges 6 on the tubes 4 will prevent solder from flowing on the reverse side of the backing, and also serve to hold the backing in correct relation and prevent dislodgment of the plate on the tubes when removedirom the facing for investment.
What I claim is 1. In anartificial tooth, in combination, a tooth, a pin or pins baked invthe tooth, a tube to cover each pin, said tubes closed at one end and having annular flanges at their open ends to'rest against the tooth and a backing for thetooth, said backing having openings to receive the tubes and adapted to rest against the flanges on the tubes, for the purposes specified.
2. A backing for a pin tooth, including a tube to cover the pm, said tube having one.
