\ l LIVINGSTON BATES, 0F SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
marrenr-sunrncn-ronmne COMPOUND.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRI L. Barns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Air Tight Surface Forming Compound; and I do hereby declare the fol-- lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to water-proofing compounds.
The object of the invention is to provide a compound for treating textile fabrics whereby to render the same thoroughly water and air proof, Without in the least de tracting fi'om the flexibility of the treatedarticle, or in any way causing deterioration thereof. I
The compound is intended rimarily for the treatment of fabrics to a apt them for use in preserving ice; but may be employed for any other surface where found of advantage. The compound consists of the following ingredients in substantially the proportions specified Paraflin One pound Spermaceti Two ounces Vaseline Three ounces Cottonseed oil Three ounces Powdered alum Two ounces Powdered rosin .Two ounces Baking soda One ounce.
( These materials are placed in a suitable vessel and heated until all are melted and thoroughly. mixed.
In use the fabric is dipped into the com pound while warm, then run through a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented m. as, rain.
Application filed March 17, 1913. Serial No. 754,929.
ticularly in that the paraflin, the soda, alum and the rosin, which together with thevaseline and cotton seed oil thoroughly fills or stops up the pores or openings in the fabric and forms a flexible, yet air tight covering or .sheath, and one which will more efiiciently preserve ice and the like.
What is claimed is A water proofing compound consisting of paraflin, one pound, spermaceti, two ounces,
Vaseline, three ounces, cottonseed oil, three ounces, powdered alum, two ounces, powdered rosin, two ounces and baking soda, one ounce, said paraflin, alum, rosin and soda together with-the Vaseline and cotton seed oil constituting a flexible fillin for the openings in apiece of fabric, an also act ing as a covering for the fabric to render the sa'me air-proof.
In testimony whereof l[ have signed my name :to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
