'This invention relates to a receptacle and it consists of a receptacle embodying the novel features of construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, hereinafter described in detail, and included within the scope and ambit ofthe appended claims.
An object of the intention is to produce a seamless receptacle of integral structure, including integral side and end walls.
Another object is to produce a seamless receptacle including integral side and end walls having an integral reinforcing chime at the line of merger of the different walls. Another object is to produce an improved seamless receptacle comprising an annular bilge wall, end walls integral with the bilge wall, and annular chimes integral with the bilge and end walls and. being of greater thickness than the bilge wall toprovide a strong line of merger or union for the different walls.
Uther objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which I have illustrated one embodiment of my invention, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of one form of receptacle embodying the features of my annular chime 3. The chime 3 is preferably of greater thickness than the bilge wall 1 in order to provide a strong reinforcement for the receptacle at the point of merger of the two walls. The walls of the receptacle are preferably composed of compacted plastics including-fibrous materials as an element, and the exterior surface of the walls is formed by the fibers arranged substantially parallel with the surface of the walls, in interlaced or felted arrangement. be noted by reference to Fig. 2 that the fibers form an interlaced layer or integument on the outer side of the bilge wall and on the outer side of the bottom wall, and that this interlaced. layer or integument is also continuous over the entire surface of the chime 3, as may be seen by reference to Fig. 2. The remaining portion of each wall, including the remaining portion of the chime 3, is composed preferably of fibrous materials, thoroughly matted and felted and compacted, and with which, if desired, may be mixed other ingredients such as cement, or asbestos or plaster of Paris, or other suitable materials. The bilge and bottom walls at the line of merger are formed with an integral fillet 4, which also strengthens the integral union of the walls.
T he head or top Wall 5 of the receptacle is identical with the bottom wall 2 in structure. The said wall. 5 merges integrally with the bilge wall 1 and is provided with a reinforcing chime 6 the structure and arrangement of which are identical in material respects with the structure and arrangement of the chime 3 previously described. There is a fillet 7 at the merger or union of the head or top wall with the bilge wall, the arrangement at this point being similar to the arrangement of the fillet 4 at the bottom of the receptacle.
The head or top wall is formed with an opening 8, and the surface or wall surrounding said opening is similar in structure to the outer surface of the receptacle, in that the fibers constituting the outer layer or integument are interlaced along the wall of the opening, and are not cut transversely as would be the case if the opening was formed, by cutting, after formation of the wall.
A receptacle of the character and structure described may be produced by the processes and machines constituting the Subject matter of my co-pending applications, one of which was filed August 28, 1905, Serial Number 276,179, another of which was filed July 26, 1909, Serial Number 509,472, and another of which was filed September 19, 1910, Serial Number 582,735, to which applications reference is made for the purpose of disclosing the mode of manufacture and the structure of the mechanism utilized in producing my improved receptacles.
I do not restrict myself to identical features of construction and arrangement except where specially mentioned in the appended claims, but
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A receptacle, composed of separately formed but integrally united layers of com-- A ,rece tacle, comprising an annular Wall-and en Walls, the receptacle being enlarged at the lines of union to form reinforcing portions, said walls and reinforcing portions being formed from separately formed but integrally united layers of compacted fibrous materials, the exterior layer matted than the interior layer, thereby forming a substantially imperv10us mtegument over the outer surface of the structure,
