Description
PATENTED APR. 21, 1908.
A. PETRAGCHI. SEPARABLE BARREL OR OTHER REGEPTAGLE. Y
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 22. 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADRIANO PETRACGHI, OF MILAN, ITALY.
SEPARABLE BARREL OR OTHER RECEPTACLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADRIANO PETRACCHI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Milan, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Separable Barrels or other Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to receptacles such as barrels, tubs, boxes and the like, and the object of the invention is to provide such a receptacle which is construeted'ofeement or other plastic material, and made in parts or sections which can be readily assembled and taken apart.
With this end in view the invention consists in the novel features and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, in which the same reference characters denote the same parts in both figures, Figure 1 is an elevation of a barrel constructed in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 is a section on line 22, Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is an en lar ed section through one of the joints.
X vessel or receptacle, according to this invention, is made of staves, blocks, strips or other parts, according to the character thereof. The barrel illustrated in the drawing is formed of staves a, of cement or other molded plastic material, reinforced or not, as desired.
The staves a are finished in such a manner as to fit together closely at their adjacent edges. Such edges are then coated, with the exception of a narrow middle stripe the width of which varies according to circumstances,

with a layer 0 of tallow or similar greasy or fatty material which does not, however, prevent the staves from fitting together accurately. The staves are joined by means of a strip (Z of frangible cement which, on account of the greasy material, does not permanently join the staves at the inner and outer parts of their side edges. It is preferable to apply the cement in such a manner that it does not appear at the inner and outer surfaces of the finished receptacle. Thus the staves or other parts are connected by a thin strip of cement, corresponding in width to the stripe which is not-greased, which strip can be readily broken when the recep tacle is to be taken to pieces.
For reinforcing the receptacle, it may be bound by hoops b, or similar devices. When these are removed the receptacle can be readily taken apart by breaking the oints of the staves or other component parts. If desired, the receptacle may be enameled.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A barrel or other receptacle comprising separable parts the adjacent .edges of which are united by a separate narrow strip of frangible cement extending along the middle of said edges, the latter being free of each other at their inner and outer parts.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ADRIANO PETRACCHI.
