-IMPROVEMENT lNlAPPARATUS FOR'REMOVING PAINT, VARNlSH,-&c.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whoml it may concern Be it known that I, THEODORE F. MOODY, of Toledo, county of Lucas, Ohio, have invented a. new and v useful Improvement in Apparatus for Removing Paints, Varnish, Ste. and I'do hereby Ideclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, referencev being had to the annexed drawingmaking a part of this specification-and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l represents a side view of my invention.
My invention relates to apparatus for removing paints, varnish, 850., and consists in a lamp and gasgenerator combined, more fully described in the speciiication herewith annexed.
'lhe letter A represents a tin or other metal or glass lamp, provided with the common wick, a.
Attached t-o the top of this lamp is the gas-generator B, secured by four small rods, b, thereto.
A pipe, O, leads from the upper part ofl the generator B, and under the same, and is provided with a iiat mouth, d, similar to a gas-bnrner, so as to make a broad, flat flame. This gas-pipe G may be inserted into the top of the generator instead of at the side.

Hitherto, as is well known in practice, a great deal of trouble and discomfort has been experienced in removing varnish, paints, Ste., from carriages, cars, &c., having to scrapethem oi, thereby scratching and gouging them up, which have to be again covered by plaster, putty, Snc.
Vith my invention I can burn off all the paint or varnish from an ordinary buggy in less than fifteen minutes, while it was formerly considered a terrible and long job, thereby `greatlv reducing the expense as well as labor.
