SULLI- van, a citizen of the United States of .America, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and usef vide an indicator which is le and cheap of construction and accurate n operation;A

With these and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, my device consists in the novel arrangement and construction of/part's hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein-,-

Referring to said drawings by numerals,

Fasteiiedto shaft 5, and constrained to turn therewith, is a flexible shaft 7 having its other end made fast to a shaft 8 journaled in brackets 9 which are fastened to Shaft 8 carries a worm 10 adapted to engageA the teeth of worm-Wheel 11. A grooved wheel or trolley 15V rests upon the periphery of the helix 13, said wheel being revolubly and slidably mounted on a in or shaft 16 carried by the bifurcated en' 17 of arm 18 ofv a 'bell-crank lever fulcruined at 19 to a bracket or `support 2O .carried by the casing. The other arm 21 of said bellcrank lever terminates in a clutch throw- ,ing member 22 which engages, by sliding contact, one member or platev 23 of a clutch.
Said bell-crank lever is held in normal posi` tion by any suitable means but preferably by a resilient member or spring 241 one end of which is made fast, through an e e therein, to ear 25 carried by arm 18; t e other end of said spring being fastened to the eye of screw 26 which passes through a suitable recess formed in a bracket 27 carried by` the casing, said screw permitting of adjustment of the tension of said spring by the thumb nut 28 which engages said screw.
As will be readily seen, when motionis imparted to the helix 13 through the worm arid worm-wheel7 the trolley l5 will ride on the periphery thereof, sliding along pin 16 as it travels. When said trolley comes in contact with 'one of the teethhll, it will be lifted, thereby operating the bell-crank Alever and throwing plate 23 of the clutch,

Shaft 8 carries a clutch member, or plate, 29 which is retained upon said shaft by the collar 30 against which said plate is held by the lresilient member orspring 31. While -the clutch membcrv29 is free to slide upon shaft 8, it is constrained to revolve therewith by the key 32. l
Clutch member 23 is slidably mounted upon one end of a shaft 33 with which it is .constrained to revolve by the key 34. Said .shaft 33 is journaled in a bracket o1' support 35 carried by the veasing, and carries on its other end a bevel-wheel 36 adapted to engage bevel-wheel 37 'carried by a shaft 38. In an indicator, a pair of alined shafts, a clutch member connected to each Shaft, a pivoted bell crank lever having a vertical arm connected to the clutch member of one shaft and having a horizontal arm arranged in spaced overlying relation to the other shaft, a helix having spaced projections arranl ed in the space between said other sha and the horizontal arm of the'lever means to rotate the helix from thesecond mentioned shaft, the free end of the horizontal. arm of the lever being forked, a shaft connected to said fork, a roller slidable on the shaft of said fork and. being engaged with the helix and When engaging said helix projections bein moved upwardly to thereby eect rocking movement of the free end of the vertical arm of the lever toward the helix to couple the clutch members, means to rota-te the helix from the second mentioned shaft, and signal display means operated by the first named shaft.
