the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in circuit controllers for flashlight attachments for umbrellas and the like, and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which may be readily secured upon the handle of an umbrella orthe like and which will be provided with means for locking the spring member in engagement with the push button for completing a circuit through a lamp of the attachment.
Another object is to provide a. device of this character which will be provided with a double spring member having one end positioned'over the push button at the lamp or flashlight and means slidably mounted "upon the body of the flashlight or casing for retaining the spring member in engagement with the push button. 7
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of this character in which will be included a locking member slidably mounted. upon the double spring member which is formed in such manner that the locking member will automatically catch at the opposite ends of said double spring member toretain the same in operative or inoperative position, as desired.
A still further object of this invention is to generally improve and simplify the construction and operation of devices of this character and increase the eficiency thereof without increasing the cost of the With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of constructiomcombination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a. complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of an umbrellawith my attachment applied to the handle thereof, Fig. 2 is an elevational viewv of my attachment removed with the locking member in neutral position, Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the forward bored portion of the device, with the lockingmember positioned at the inner end of the double.

Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, l designates an umbrella, to the enlarged end? of the handle 20f which is secured an elbow 4, with the free threaded end of which is removably engaged the inner threaded end 5 of the casing 6 of an ordiiiary electric flashlight having the usual bulls-eye 7 in its outer end and a push button 8 in its body portion adjacent said outer end.
Secured by its central portion to the a casing 6, as shown at 9, is a double spring member 10 which has its opposite extremities directed outwardly, as shown at 11, to limit movement of the locking ring 12 longitudinally of the casing 6 of the flashlight, it being understood that the ring 12 is engaged around the casing 6 and over the spring member 10; Adjacent the opposite ends or the double spring member 10 are formed ofiset portions 13 to provide looking seats 14: for the ring 12, and thereby lock said ring at the opposite ends of said double spring member 10. It will also be understood that the opposite ends of said double spring member are normally spaced from the flashlight body 6.
The locking rmg 12 is normally in neutral position, over the central portion of the double spring member 10 and may be readily moved toward either end of the double spring member 10. When it is desired to lock the ring 12 against movement, it is simply necessary to force the same toward the inner end of the double spring member 10, it being understood that the latter extends longitudinally of the casing 6, and
allows said ring 12 to engage in the locking seats 14. The double spring member 10 must then be forced toward the casing 6 before the ring 12 can be disengaged from the lockingseats 1 1. When it is desired to use the flashlight, it is simply necessary to force the locking ring 12 toward the outer end of the double spring member 10 and thereby press the latter against the push button 8, and as the ring 12 comes opposite the lockin g seats 14, the double spring member 10 will move outwardly sufficiently to .catchv the ring 12 and prevent movement of the same. This outward movement of the double spring member 10, however, is not suflicient to permit the push button 8 to move to inoperative position. Therefore, it .will be readily seen that the operator is not required to retain his finger in engagement with the push button 8 to retain the contact members within the casing 6, and not shown in the drawings, in engagement with one another.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will'be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Vhat is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising the combination with a casing and a switch operating push button contact; of a double spring member having its cen tral portion secured to said casing, one end of said double spring member being spaced outwardly of the push button, and means slidably mounted upon the casing and the double spring member to force the opposite ends of said spring member'toward the eassaid double spring member being spaced u from the casing, and having locking seats formed therein, a locking member slidably mounted upon the casing and the double spring member, 0ne end of said double spring member being spaced outwardly of the push button, said locking member being adapted to be moved toward the opposite ends of said double spring member and adapted for engagement in the locking seats formed therein, and means for limiting movement of said locking member.
3. A device of the character described comprising the combination with a casing" adapted to be secured to an umbrella handle and a switch operating push button carried by said casing; of a double spring. member having its central portion secured to said casing, one end of said double spring memher being spaced outwardly of the switch operating push button, and means slidably mounted upon the casing and the double 7 spring member to force. the opposite ends of said spring member toward the casing and retain the said ends in their innermost position.
