CLIP non PLow-BEAIvr-si Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 9, 1915.
Application filed December 21, 1912. Serial No. 738,051.
To all 207mm it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. STARKEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Lakeport, in the county of Lake and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clips for Plow- Beams, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
T his invention relates to a clip especially adapted to be applied to a plow beam for the purpose of constituting an efficient means for allowing a draft means to be con nected thereto for the purpose of efliciently bracing the draft means adapted to be connected to the beam of a plow.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and eliicient clip which is formed of a single length of resilient material which may be very cheaply and elliciently manufactured.
()ther objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughout the following specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure l is a perspective view of the device showing the same connected to a plow. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the attached clip shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a sectional view through an embodiment of the clip which may be used in connection with the present invention.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the present invention relates to an eliicient clip adapted to be carried by a plow beam for the purpose of facilitating the connecting of bracing means thereto for the purpose of bracing draft means adapted to be secured to the beam of a plow. By referring to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the beam 10 carries a clip which clip comprises a lower or base section 28 provided with outwardly extending arms 29 constituting rests for the hooked ends 30 of the U-shaped upper section 31. These two sections are placed above the plow beam and are connected together by means of a bolt 32 passing through the plow beam as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. These hooks 30 may be used for the purpose of engaging a bracing chain 42 which is engaged by means of a brace l1, which brace 41 is secured to the outer end of a draft means 18, which draft means is also secured to the forward end of the plow beam 10 as illustrated in Fig. 1.
Should it be so desired a type of clip as shown in Fig. 3 may be employed in place of the clip shown in Fig. 2. In this connection in Fig. the clip is formed from a single sheet of metal which is bent intermediate its length to form a spring eye 33 from which the arms 34: extend. Ihese arms are provided with alined openings 35 for the purpose of receiving a securing pin of any suitable construction for. holding the arms firmly together. The arms are then bent outwardly to constitute a substantially U-shaped structure as indicated at 36 in Fig. 3 between. which the plow beam is positioned and terminate in extensions 37 which are provided with perforations through which the securing pin 38 passes. A securing bolt 39 passes through the plow beam and through the sections 36 of the clip to connect the clip with the plow beam. It is, of course, obvious that these clips may be interchanged, the construction of the clips permitting them to be used with any form or construction of plow beam now upon the market.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
1. In a plow, the combination of a beam having a clip formed from a single length of resilient material bent intermediate its length forming a spring eye, a U-shaped brace section encircling the plow beam, outwardly-extending arms constituting a rest for hook portions of the U-shaped upper portion, and securing means for said clip passing through the plow beam and the upper and lower sections of said clip.
2. In a plow, the combination with a beam, of a removable clip carried by said beam, said clip formed from a single piece of spring metal and comprising a body, said body being formed of similarly constructed portions engaging the upper and ilii l lower portion of said beam, said portions of In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix the ,clip terminating at one side in upmy signature in presence of two Witnesses.
