Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb, 9, 1915.
Application filed November 1, 1912. Serial No. 729,054.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, W'ILLIAM EDWARD Faye, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the city of Toronto, county of York, Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Handsaws, described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, that form part of lected on the surface clear of the mark. The
the same.
The essential feature of the invention consists in arranging a compressible air bulb in a handle of a saw to direct a jet of air to the saw teeth.
The object of the invention is, to assist carpenters and others using wood saws in following the guide lines, eliminating the necessity of the operator bending down to blow away the saw-dust and insuring rapid and accurate work being done.
The drawing represents a perspective View of the handle portion of a saw partly broken away and showing the application, of my invention.
Referring to the drawing,.1 is the saw handle having a recess 2 formed therein on the inner side of the hand grip.
3 is a rubber bulb arranged in the recess 2 and having a teat iprojecting from the top thereof extending into a socket 5 at the upper side of the recess 2.
6 is a tubular nipple secured to the other end of the bulb 3 and extending through a hole 7 in the front side of the handle, said nipple being turned forwardly at the point to direct a jet of air in the direction of the teeth of the saw blade 8.
This device is very simple and in operation the person using the saw grips the hand grip in the usual manner so that the second and third fingers of the hand close around the rubber bulb. The pressure against the saw is upon the palm of the hand and when the saw reaches the innermost part of its stroke the operator by simply squeezing the bulb with the fingers directs a jet of air against the surface of the board being sawed, thereby blowing the saw-dust colworkman may thus follow the mark clearly and will not have to stop sawing or bend down in orderto blow away the dust. The bulb is arranged in such a position that the act of squeezing it will be most natural, further it will be protected against accidental damage and adds very little to the cost.
What I claim as my invention is A hand saw, having a recess formed in the inner side of the hand grip and an orifice leading from said recess downwardly and forwardly toward the saw blade and arranged in alinement with the saw blade, said recess having a small pocket formed in the upper side, and a rubber bulb arranged in said recess, having a teat extending into said pocket and a hollow stem extending into the said orifice and projecting beyond the lower side of the handle and extending forwardly and adapted to direct a jet of air toward the saw blade and in alinement therewith.
Signed at the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, this th day of October 1912.
WILLIAM E. FAYE.
