The present invention is here shown embodied in a push button snap switch of flush receptacle type, but it is to be understood that it may be embodied in switches of. any
. desired suitable type. .The porcelain receptacle body 10 is of well known cup form and carries ateach end two wire terminals 11 connected to'contact straps 12, one for each of the spring straps'13, 14, 15, 16 mounted in well known manner'upon the plug 17 of insulating material and adapted to frictionally engage and electrically connect with the wire terminal straps 12. Pairs' of switchterminals 18 and 19, Q0 and 21 are formed integral with or carried by the spring straps. Coiiperating therewith are the usual switch bars :22, 23, mounted upon the spindle 24, and subjected to the snap action of the switch spring 25 through the depression of one or the other ofthe push buttons 26. 27 in well understood manner. such length and shape that the wings of switch bar 22 are constantly in engagement therewith, so that the effect is to secure a constant connection between switch bar 22 and terminal 18 in all positions of the switch. It will also be i'loted that the switch bar 22 is electrically connected to bar 23 by a strap 28 passing over the usual oscillating yoke :29 but separated therefrom by the strip of insulation 30. The effect of this construction is \to establish electrical connection between terminal 18 and terminal 19 in one position of the'switch and between terminal 18 and terminals 20 and 21 in the In the first case the connection is direct through the switch bar :22. In the second case the connection is established through switch bar 22, strap 28' and switch bar 23. Assuming that the terminal 20 is of the same polarity as terminal 19, the current entering the switch through 18 (assuming the latter to be the positive pole) passes out through 19 in one position of the switch and through :20 in theother position of the switch. There is thus a constant connection through the switch from terminal 18 to one or the other of the terminals 19 or 20 depending upon the position of the switch bar. On the other hand, the terminals 20 and 21 beingnormal oneposition contact terminals, the connection between the same is either made or broken, depending upon the position of the switch bar 23.
The switch thus comprises four switch terminals, two for incoming and two for outgoing wires, and a snap itch mechanism having two positions, and comprising a pair of switch bars adapted to connect pairs of switch terminals, together with a cross connection between the switch bars by means of which both incoming terminals are connected to one outgoing terminal in one position of the switch, while in the other position of the switch this connection is broken and one of the incoming terminals is connected to the other outgoing terminal.
The switch is capable of various uses and I do not limit myself toany one in particular.
