ln carrying out my inventiom l employ a holder l0 which is .preferably formed of suitable sheet metal and which includes av 'handle portion l1 which is enlarged at one extremity to form a substantially elliptical shaped head 12. Attention is called.l to the fact that in providing an elliptical shaped pad,'the side vvalls thereof, 'which are substantially straight adjacent their opposite extremities converge toward opposite ends of the pad r`and are so disposed as to engage against f the similarly converging straight portions of the side edges of the head 12 to bear against the adjacent portions of the frame 13 as shovvn in Fig. 5 of the drawings. lt will thus be clear that by this arrangement longitudinal movement of the pad 22 upon the head is prevented, the contiguous converging vvalis of the pad being adapted to wedge between the converging edges of the head, such engagement of the pad With the head acting to relieve the strain upon the

At the forward extremity of the head, the adjacent portion of the frame provides a solid abutment for the pad to thus prevent longitudinal movement of the pad toivard the forward extremity of the head and with the object of providing a similar abutment at the rear end ofA the head, I have arranged the prong 21 medially of the head and between the extremities of the shoulder 17` and it will be observed that said prong 21 is so disposed at to coact with the adjacent converging portions of the shoulder 17 to prevent the movement of the pad rearwardly of the head.

It will benoted that the`-pad 22 may be` readily .removed and thus, different pads may be easily positioned upon the head each of said pads being used for a particular purpose thereby adapting the device to a great variety of uses. This is an especial feature of my invention, and particular attention is called to the fact that the device may be used 'With equal facility as a dauher or in the capacit;v of a liquid applying implement.

A device of the character described including a holder formed with a head provided ivith a socket in its inner-face, the side Walls of said socket being substantially straight adjacent the opposite extremities thereof and converging toward the ends of the socket, and a pad carried by the head, said pad being provided with a reduced head haring substantially straight side Walls adjacent opposite extremities thereof, said side vvalls converging toward opposite ends of the head, said head being arranged to seat in said socket with the converging straight portions of the walls thereof in engagement with the converging straight portions of the Walls of the socket.
