Nature and Object ofthe Invention. i y My check consists of an armor lever, which is pivoted at the bottom of the door on the side thereof', and whose free end carries a rubber roller, which is made to come iucontact with the oor or carpet to keep the door in anyvdesired position. y

A The axes of the roller and lever, namely, the screw G and pivot e, are at right angles with the face of the door, so that the lever and roiler turn in planes parallel with the side of the door, and pressure against the f door has no tendency to move either the lever or roller on its axis.

, The operation of the check is as follows:
The check is ordinarily kept in the position shown by dotted lines in vfig. 1, namely, with the .free end thrown up, to remove the roller from contact witlrthe Hoor or carpet and the door is freeto swing. When put in use the door is Opened to the position required, whether partly or wholly opened, and ,the lever depressed with the foot to bring the roller in contact with the carpet; the door will then beheld to its position.
