This invention relates to a hook which is provided with a peculiar device which prevents it from opening spontaneously and is especially suitable for use as a fitting in connection with bedsteads, as well as with doors of railway carriages.

The accompanying drawing shows three forms of embodiment of the invention.

The hook at is mounted in the usual manner so as to be able to turn around a stud of the plate 6; its hook shaped end on gages the eye 2. According to the present invention the plate 6 (Figs. 1 and 2) is provided on one side with a recess 8, whereby a tongue is formed, which by stamping is converted into a spring 0 provided with a ball shaped projection 4. The hook a is provided with a stamped ball depression 5, into which the projection 4% of the spring 0 snaps when the hook is in its closed position (shown in dotted lines). The hook is provided on its lower side with an out turned lug 6, so that it may pass over the projecting part 4 of the spring, during its closing motion. In order to open the hook an upward pressure is exerted upon the latter in the direction of the arrow I, whereby the projection of the spring is caused to leave the depression of the hook, thus allowing the hook to be lifted.

The form of the invention shown by Figs. 3 and 4 differs from the one described in that the spring 0, instead of being provided with a projection carries a tooth 4, and the hook a has an aperture 8 surrounded by the stirrup 7 so that during the closing of the hook, the inclined wall 6 of the latter pushes aside the tooth 4- until it snaps into the hole 8 owing to the action of the spring.

For opening the hook pressure is exerted upon the tooth 4 until it is disengaged from the hook at thus allowing of the latter being rotated.

Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a device of the character described,

the combination with a hook member, of a plate, means for pivotally mounting said hook, a spring tongue formed in said plate, a head on said tongue, means carried by said hook adapted to engage said head, and means carried by said hook for guiding said spring tongue.

2. In a hook of the kind described, the combination with the hook proper provided with an aperture therein, of a plate, means for pivotally connecting the said hook with I said plate, a downwardly projecting spring struck out from the said plate, a projecting tooth struck out from the said spring and adapted to engage the said aperture of the hook, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
