MosEskrNsEY, or NEWARK, NEWJERSE'Y;
Letters Patent No. 112,604, dated March 14, 187.1.
IMPROVEMENT IN SKA-res.
TheiSchedilleseferredto'lnlthese Letters Patent and making pari:A of the same.
`To all `whom 'it may coce'ru,
4Beit known that` I, Moses KrNsnY, of Newark,
inthe county otEsseX Iand State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Skate; and I do here-` `byxdeclare that-the `following is a full, clear, and -f exact descriptionthereof; fwhich will ,enable others skilled in the `art `to Inakeand use` the same, refer- I encebeing had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication. i j
[Figure l: represents side vieuT of my improved skate.
'Figure 2 is a plan-or topI View, partly in section, of
` "the saine.
. Fignre is a detaii transyerse section otone of the front clamps.
, Figure 4 is a detailzhorizontalg section ofthe saine.V f 3 Smilarietters of -referenceindicate corresponding A These pertorated ears aref usefull for` suspending the skates `i'onipins which project from the sides ofthe heel, and
` also for biting againstthe edge` of the sole, and thereby' lloldng thei'ont part of the skate.
A in the drawing representsthe foot-support of the skate, made either separate` from or connected with the heel-plate B ofthe same, of metal or other suit- G-is the skatefrunner.
i `From the heel-piate projecty one or two perforated ears, a; either at `the sides` orbackof the same, or
obliquely, as shown in iig. 1. These ears can be readily hooked over headed pinsor screws b, that project from the heel of the boot or shoe to which the skate `is to be secured. They constitute a very reliable fastening, and can be readily applied.
The front jaws C G of the skate are also made `in the form of perforated ears, projectngfrom sliding orpivoted Shanks d, that are connected with suitable leversD D, whereby they can be set apar-t or moved together, as maybe desired.
The jaws G are perforated, and preferably'bent in such manner as to be convex in the horizontal section, as shown in iig. 4. lhe effect of this style of jaw will be the biting of the edges ofthe aperture into. `and against the edge of the sole, and thebulging ont ofthe sole' within said aperture, as is clearly indicated in iU. 4. i
This will,{therefore, be a very reliable asteningof the simplest possible construction.
Having thus described my invention',
1 claim as new and desire to jsecure by Letters Patent- 1. A heel-plate, B, having ears c a, slotted to fit over and be-snspended from nails already attached to the boot, as described. 4
2. `At ibot-suppora'A., having perforated ears c c, curvedforward to catch upon and firmly hold to the edge of the boot-sole, without pins, screws, or any other attachment. y v
